Vehicle Summary

This is a 1980 Toyota HJ45 Troopy (Troop Carrier), fully restored between 2021–2022 for rugged off-road use in Djibouti (Horn of Africa). Living expat since few years here now, am selling my personal hobby and weekend bush « toy ». The restoration prioritized durability and mechanical upgrades over cosmetic perfection. The vehicle has seen actual trail use and is not a garage queen.

THE VEHICLE IS IN AFRICA (I can’t modify the location of listing). Contact me for any questions or details.

FOB included, CIF NY +3500USD

It drives, brakes, and handles strong. The mechanical base is sound and powerful, but some details remain incomplete or require attention for full US-level standards (listed below).

Engine & Driveline

  • Toyota 1HDT turbo diesel engine, sourced from an HDJ80 (Australia market)
  • H55F 5-speed gearbox (from HJ75)
  • HJ75 front & rear axles with disc brakes

  • Toyota front driveshaft (shortened, greasable)
  • Power steering using OEM 75/76 steering box + J61 pitman arm
  • Mastervac: new OEM Toyota
  • Brake master cylinder: new OEM Toyota FZJ80 (high capacity)
  • Clutch master & slave cylinders: new
  • Custom braided steel clutch and brake lines
  • Aluminum 4-core Mishimoto radiator (Japan) – repaired after trail damage, works perfectly

  • Stainless 3” exhaust (has surface corrosion)
  • All coolant and vacuum hoses replaced with blue silicone
  • Painless Wiring harness (USA)
  • Vintage Air A/C kit installed (compressor needs service)
  • K&N air filter

Chassis & Suspension

  • Ironman 4x4 +50mm heavy-duty leaf springs with greasable shackles

  • OEM steel split rims
  • Includes 5x Nexen inner tubes and rim liners (new)

Included with Sale

  • FOB export prep and documentation included (vehicle will be loaded into container at no additional cost)
  • Optional CIF to New York port for +$3,500
  • Original 2H diesel engine (complete) and original 4-speed gearbox (can be shipped on pallet in same container)
  • Photos of restoration available
  • List of all suppliers and parts references will be provided to buyer

Condition Summary

This vehicle is mechanically solid, extremely capable off-road, and ready to drive as-is in harsh environments. It is not fully finished to US show car or daily-driver standards. If you are looking for a 100% original HJ45 with perfect paint and zero wear — this is not it.

However, if you are after a real Land Cruiser built to work, with a legendary drivetrain, serious off-road potential, and a unique vintage platform ready for further refinement — this is a rare opportunity.

Rooftop tent on pictures not included.
