While Toyota customers in the United States took advantage of the Land Cruiser, there were many variants that were never officially sold here. This FJ45 4x4 Pickup is one of those that was never available to the general public here.
This fully restored example was exported to Florida. A Cygnus White roof over Olive Green (code 653) is in overall great shape. The bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy while the cargo area is in fine form. The metal bumpers fit tightly to the body. Up front, behind the front bumper, is a Mile Marker SEC8 winch.
This pickup rolls on Ecovision W-186 light truck tires, size P245/75R16 at all four corners, including the spare tire in the cargo bed. There is a second, older spare tire fitted beneath the cargo bed. All four tires on the ground are mounted on steel wheels and factory wheel covers with front locking hubs. This truck rides on a 116-inch wheelbase. The rear pickup bed is solid and comes with padded protection.
Under the hood is Toyota's venerable 4.2L inline six-cylinder engine (code 2F), which debuted in 1975. A Super Start battery joins it beneath the hood and backing the motor is a four-speed manual transmission and a 4.11:1 rear end.
Inside, the gray split bench seat looks great when paired with the light green exterior. The black carpet is in very good order while the light green headliner is in decent order. The KM speedo does fluctuate. A large, Mercedes-Benz-like steering wheel faces the driver while the gray inner door liners look good. The metal dash is light green. A floor-mounted shifter and a Pioneer AM/FM stereo with CD player rounds out the interior with working factory air conditioning.
If you're looking for a nearly bulletproof truck that's barely into its second life, consider this FJ45 Pickup. You won't find many others out there like it and it could easily become the rolling Swiss Army Knife you never knew you needed. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to take a peek.
Competition to this Toyota in 1976 included Chevrolet's Cheyenne K10, Dodge D100 4x4, Ford's F-150 4x4, GMC's Sierra K15 and Jeep's J10 Pickup.
