This is a 1979 RA42 Toyota Celica GT Liftback, with the 20r 2.2L 4 cylinder engine and a 5 speed manual.
I am the second owner. The dash shows 55k, but the true mileage is unknown as it only goes to 5 digits and could have rolled over in its 45 years. Paint is not original, but it has been matched as close as possible, according to previous owner.
The following items have been replaced within the last year, and 200 miles:- Shocks on all four corners- Rear brake shoes and pistons- Front brake flex lines- Wheel bearings- Weber 38/38 carburetor (stock included)- Battery - Tires- Fuel pump- Brake master cylinder- Water pump- Thermostat- Belt- Rear Muffler
This car isn't perfect. Some paint chips here and there, some dents, and some minor rust. Mechanically the car is very solid, and does not look bad by any means. Lights and gauges all work. The shadow rear louvres are a great touch that came on some cars as a dealer option, and they compliment the nostalgic look of the car well. The GT trim brought the 5 speed, as well as supra-esque 4 spoke alloy wheels.
It's a head turner, and it's a great driver's car to boot. The manual is fun and shifts well, and the Weber carb is a common mod that breathes a lot of life into these cars. Sounds amazing, very deep for a 4 cylinder, and the beautiful intake noise comes through more then the exhaust. It's also probably the most comfortable sports car I've driven, even with the seats needing some attention.
All in all a great car for either restoring, or driving it as it is. Toyota reliability is no joke. I wish I could hang on to it but I need money for college.
