1992 Toyota Camry V6 *Needs Work*
Vehicle Details
This Camry has been a great car for our family over many decades. Unfortunately, it now needs a rebuilt engine. Starting about two months ago, the Camry began having white fuel smelling smoke coming from the exhaust. The car also started having issues stalling, accelerating, and a major drop in fuel economy. I replaced all 6 fuel injectors, spark plugs and spark plug wires. With no change in the vehicle’s drivability, I took the Camry to my mechanic.
My mechanic completed a thorough diagnosis and came up with this conclusion:
Cylinder one exhaust value is either cracked, broken internally, or not closing all the way for some reason. This would explain why there’s so much raw fuel getting past- causing issues with fuel economy, stalling out and drivability issues.
Camry does start and drive but has issues driving that include the following:
Poor acceleration
Loss in fuel economy
Sometimes stalls out while idling
White smoke (that smells like raw fuel) coming from exhaust
I’ve owned this car and have meticulous maintenance records on everything done on this car dating back to the late 1990s. In the last 3 years, some of that includes but is not limited to:
CLEAN Title
Rebuilt Transmission
New radiator
New inner toe rods with alignment
New spark plugs, wires and distributor cap
New fuel injectors
New timing belt and water pump
New brake pad/rotors
New Battery
Continental all-season tires with some tread still left.
Oil changes done every 3,000 miles
Working AC, heater, cruise-control, radio, and sunroof.
Here’s a list of some work that needed to be done to the Camry besides the engine:
Check engine light for knock sensors (this light has been on for around 10 years).
Fuel gage is slightly off
Has some engine oil leaks
Steering wheel is not straight, I believe it’s from a bad rack/Pinon but it has passed alignments and has showed no irregular tire wear.
Rear driver side window regulator motor does not work.
Included in your purchase of this Camry, you’ll get the following:
Haynes repair Manuel on Camry
Complete maintenance repair records dating back over 20 years
New distributor
Mass airflow sensor from junkyard
New value cover gaskets
New OEM Toyota knock sensor wiring harness
Miscellaneous vacuum hoses pulled off junkyard cars.
This car has been a part of our family for a long time and has served us well. It’s sad to have to sell it, but it’s not financially worth putting the money/time into a rebuilt engine.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Justin
