-“Calamity Jane” is a Topless North American Stock (NAS)imported from Japan to Texas in 1978 with a Sep 1978 manufactured date — She isa great example of a stage two complete frame on restoration — Exceptionallyand tastefully restored to its original stock condition using OEM parts with afew upgraded creature comforts – Under the hood is unmodified (with theexception of adding a power steering) completely stock 1978 FJ40 TLC with 100%original smog equipment intact spent her life in a Texas ranch – Based onhistory, I am the 3rd owner - Previous owner found her in his family ranch whereshe served as a ranch hand her entire life until now — I purchased “CalamityJane” in March 2022 and slowly began the meticulous transformation process — Sheserved as a weekend driver until March 2023 when she received the full build --100% of restoration was performed by me with the exception of 5 x tires mountand balance — 5 months/1000+ man-hours later, she has been revived to herformer glory with a few desirable finishes — Currently garaged in Rockport,Texas and serves as an evening driver around the town for ice cream and such -Mileage shows 25,283 as of this posting — Clean Texas title and registration inmy name.
Restoration completed July 2023:
Complete interior and exterior single stage paint Jun/Jul2023 with all body parts and glass removed –Every part that could be taken out was removed and either replaced orrestored to its original condition -- New rear sill, restored OEM front andrear bumpers including a new rear hitch receiver — interior, exterior andengine bay including individual body parts removed, inspected, prepped, sandedand primed (DTM epoxy) and sprayed in PPG single stage stock Toyota color 303Heath Grey – DTM epoxy and PPG single stage stock Toyota color T012, CygnusWhite for the front bezel and 5 x OEM stock wheels – Fashion Green/Cygnus Whiteis a rare highly desirable classic FJ40 color combination — ZERO rust - Yes,she turned out stunningly well – Calamity Jane is powered by restored (headcompletely rebuilt), tuned and adjusted original 2F, 4.2L engine complementedwith H42, 4 speed manual transmission and 4.11 gearing — She received a newpower steering system (Toyota OEM FJ40 PS gearbox and Saginaw PS pump),complete OEM carburetor rebuild plus tune up including new spark plugs, wires,cap and rotor and air filter—new brake booster and OEM clutch slave servo -- Runsstrong and shifts smooth through all the gears -- All stainless steel hardware(bolts, nuts, flat and lock washers) throughout the entire FJ40 inside andoutside (including areas not visible to the naked eye) – stainless steel hoodand windshield hooks/latches, new rubber hood bumpers --All lights (new OEMfront parking lights with new pedestal grommets, new rear light gaskets &lens covers), switches, gauges and instrument cluster and electronics functionas designed (including headlight switch illumination and the blue high beamindicator)– new ignition switch and OEM cigarette lighter (great USB adaptor) —the front dash items removed and restored to original condition includinginstrument cluster, ash tray and glove compartment door/face plates have beenrestored using urethane pewter paint – Consciously upgraded to FJ60 front seatsfor functionality and ability to recline for comfort -- Seats (front and jump)restored with POR-15 paint and new marine grade seat covers including new jumpseat straps – upgraded new seat belts (front and jump seats) —lockable TuffySecurity Products center console with drink holders in the front and anadditional set for the rear – Tuffy center console possesses stereo din mountthat houses a Sony stereo wired to upgraded Bose outdoor speaker boxes and newantenna – original AM radio slot has delete plate for future use — restored bottle jack, and original jackhandles —reproduction TEQ new tool/accessory bag with basic maintenance tools,OEM inspection light and new owners/operators manual — new OEM dash pad (notplastic cover) — new OEM gear and transfer case shift knobs and boots – new customcut windshield and weatherstrip seal along with new wipers and blades –Includes custom cut front and rear cargo rubber floor lining – front was heaterremoved and restored functions very well as designed – front license bracket isa new OEM while the rear bracket was restored (new no longer available) usingthe same process and products (POR-15 and urethane pewter) – it was a deliberatedecision to build Calamity Jane as fair weather driving machine which allowedfor a set of customsheet metal fabricated to OEM stamping specifications front half doors and aset of OEM barn/saloon doors from a 1974 FJ40 for the spring, summer and fall/toplessdriving enjoyment – comes with new Bestop bikini top -- Toyota stock OEMsteel wheels with metal center cap clips including the matching spare alongwith new OEM center wheel/hub caps mated with 5 x BF Goodrich KO2 31x10.50R15tires -- new 5 x OEM FJ40 badging (front, 2 x apron and 2 x rear with gaskets)and rear corner reflectors – All 4 x doors received complete restoration withnew seals and weatherstripping for the rear barn doors (functions nicely withzero rattle) — single key operatesignition and fuel door — complete FJ40 2.5” Ironman suspension systemincluding steering stabilizer (very capable and functional while presenting herwith a nice level stance) — all tie rod ends including the drag link serviced withnew parts — power steering system, 2F, 4.2L engine coupled with H42, 4 speedtransmission and 2 speed 4WD transfer case performs well and is an absolute funto drive – Fuel system has beencompletely upgraded with new molded plastic fuel tank (never rust/corrode) alongwith lines and filter -- Engine idles nicely like a tractor and runs strong andshifts effortlessly through all gears – Knuckle joint/hub received service — 2x front discs brakes and 2 x rear drum brakes serviced and functions well --Undercarriage is in exceptional condition and has been coated with Barrier Bond(rubberized undercoating also serves as sound deadening as well as corrosioninhibitor)— Frame sealed with POR 15, wheel wells and entire undercarriagepainted – Engine received new 20W-50 oil, new OEM air and oil filters — Frontand rear differentials, transfer case and transmission serviced with 80W-90gear oil — All other fluids flushed and topped off with fresh fluids
