1977 Toyota FJ Cruiser Additional Info:
Do you think you missed the FJ40 Land Cruiser bandwagon? Well, this gorgeous 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 might be your last chance to get a real great one for anything approaching an affordable price. Better yet, it's been completely restored back to stock specs, which is a rare find these days as well. With prices skyrocketing, this beautifully finished, comprehensively and correctly restored Yota with all the right factory goodies is the one to own now and in the future.
The Code 653 Sicilian Olive paint is in great shape and exactly captures the go-anywhere look that made the FJ40 famous. Actually, they probably never looked this good when new and if you were using a Land Cruiser correctly back then, it certainly didn't stay this shiny and fresh for long. Fortunately, this one seems to have lived a pretty easy life in the suburbs rather than the Outback, and as a result the bodywork is straight (literally!). Flat-sided sheetmetal makes the FJ40 durable, easy to service, and simple to build but restoring one to this level can be a challenge. Just look at how well the hood fits, the neat flush-fitting doors, and the new weatherstripping used throughout, all signs of a quality restoration that started with good base stock. Contrasting details like the flat gray front bumper and rear bumperettes, the iconic off-white grille, and safari soft-top roof all give it a rough-and-tumble look that's instantly recognizable and while these are easy to customize, this one remains pretty much exactly the way the factory built it. And that's exactly why we love it so much.
The interior has been given a wholesale restoration that retains the all-business attitude from the factory, featuring a neatly upholstered 60-40 split-bench set-up front that's ostensibly one bucket seat for the driver and a small bench for the front passengers. The rear jump seats have been upholstered to match, as have the door panels, indicating great attention to detail and a respect for history. The floors were painted olive green to match the body and covered with rubber mats that make the floor tough and easy to maintain when you're playing in the dirt, and everything inside feels so fresh we doubt this FJ has seen anything rougher than a dusty driver since it was restored. An oversized factory steering wheel helps keep the wheels pointed forward in the rough stuff and a full array of stock gauges and simple pull knobs and switches inside the painted dash are all the driver needs. Options are sparse as you'd probably expect inside an FJ, although an A/C system was added underneath, and seatbelts and an AM/FM radio provide a touch of modernity for those longer cruises. A surprisingly slick-shifting 4-speed manual gearbox manages the gears with ease, and with a full removable soft-top, you and your passengers can really experience the open-air fun of this legendary SUV. Beautifully and faithfully restored with nothing to hinder its bulletproof reliability, and that's just how true off-roaders prefer it.
Toyota's trusty and torquey 4.2 liter 2F inline-six provides unparalleled reliability and plenty of power to move the Land Cruiser with ease. The motor is believed original to the car and features stock specs throughout, and with visual signs of a rebuild and great maintenance and care it's ready to work or play, and should be good to go for another forty years and tens of thousands of miles. Everything is as the factory intended under the big hood, including the black air cleaner and shiny silver valve cover, and it's a very high-quality engine bay that should be shown off with pride. New wiring, a heavy-duty radiator, painted inner fenders and firewall, and proper finishes used throughout only reinforce the idea that this is an investment-grade Landie. Power steering and power front disc brakes are welcome additions inside, greatly improving the drivability of this rugged off-roader. The 4-speed shifts beautifully and the 4-wheel-drive system works seamlessly to keep you out of trouble, and the factory height set by the upgraded shocks and heavy-duty leaf springs is tall enough to handle just about anything out on the trail. The underside is painted and finished to a high-level like the rest of this Yota, there's a newer exhaust system, and the factory steelies are wrapped in rugged 235/75/15 off-road radials to finish off the correct look.
We sell quite a few of these Toyotas and it's been a long, long time since we've seen one this nice and correct. If you've been waiting for the right truck, this is it. Don't hesitate, call today!
