1982 Toyota Hilux Additional Info:
I'm a car collector selling a very nicely preserved classic 1982 Toyota pickup. Of all the 14 classic and vintage cars in my collection, this is the vehicle that surprisingly gets more attention than all the others. Now it is ready for a new owner.
I acquired the truck three years ago from a vintage Toyota truck restorer. I am told that only a few hundred short bed, 2 wd SR-5 pickups were ever sold. Most were long bed and/or 4 wd versions. A clean "Auto Check-CarFax" shows previous ownership from 1982-2015 exclusively in California and then Oregon. Now garaged in Central Virginia with only 134,650 original miles! I've put on about 7,000 of those miles in the past three years using the truck mostly as a weekend grocery getter or for trips to Home Depot. Clean Virginia title- currently registered as an antique vehicle with vintage license plates.
The front cab is all original paint... the rear bed was repainted by the previous owner mostly to clean up typical bed scratches etc. I added a heavy rubber bed mat- paint looks like new underneath. All around you'll find typical scratches/chips etc. It's certainly not a show truck but the photo's tell the story. The original SR-5 stripes on the hood and side fenders were fading in spots so I removed them. Glass is good all-around. Windows go up and down as they should.
This truck is running on very rare 14 inch Toyota Mojave style wheels. The tires are Hankook Optimo's that were put on new last year and have only a couple thousand miles on them.
Mechanical work I've had done on the truck over the past two years and 7,000 miles:
New TiresNew front shocksnew front brakes (rotors and pads)new radiator and hosesseveral oil changestune-upnew battery
In 2018 I had a local classic car upholstery shop put in new seat cushions and covers, new black carpeting, new carpeted door kick panels and carpeted panel behind the seats. Everything else is original including a nice headliner and door cards. The radio (am/fm stereo) is original and works well. The a/c blows cold and the heat works like a blow torch. All gauges are functional. The cab is water tight and has a rear sliding glass window.
Engine and transmission:
Toyota's bullet proof 22R 4 cylinder engine... with low 134k original miles. Good oil pressure. Recent tune-up and frequent oil changes. Occasionally I'll see a small oil spot on the garage floor but I've never had to add oil between oil changes. Starts right up, idles smoothly and runs like a top. The 5-speed transmission shifts effortlessly and the clutch is good.
There is minimal surface rust underneath (see photo's), nothing that wouldn't easily clean up with a wire brush. The only real rust issue anywhere on the truck is on the front lower lip panel under the front of the hood which has been treated with POR-15 (see photo).
While the cap is easily removable with several bolts, it really comes in handy and so I've never removed it.
These early Japanese trucks are quickly increasing in value. I've enjoyed my three years of care free driving and now it's ready to pass along to the next owner. Local inspections encouraged. Garaged just outside of Charlottesville, Va. Fly in and drive it home or I'm happy to work with your shipper! I wouldn't hesitate to drive this truck across the country tomorrow. Questions? Email me through Ebay and I usually respond in less than 12 hours.
