For sale is a stunning example of one of the most unique offerings from Toyota to ever exist. Based on the Toyota AXV-II Concept car, Toyota produced only 16,000 examples of the Sera (also called the EXY10). It was produced between 1991 and 1995 and was exclusively sold in Japan. The Sera is powered by a 1.5L 5E-FHE and weighed only 2,000 lbs. The sport little coupe could have sold on its performance, handling, and practicality alone, but the styling of the car truly set it apart from the competition. With a nearly uninterrupted glass canopy roof and the first butterfly doors every put on a road going production vehicle, the Toyota Sera looks like something out of a science fiction comic. In fact, the unique butterfly door design was so striking and memorable that Gordon Murray, designer of the iconic Mclaren F1, cited the Sera as his inspiration for the F1's door configuration.
This Sera was legally imported from Japan and is now registered in Connecticut. The VIN is EXY100010310. As a JDM vehicle, it does not have a 17-digit VIN number. The car received a complete respray in the correct shade of OEM blue. The exterior of the car is flawless. While the interior was restored, it is in phenomenal original condition. There are no tears in the fabric and everything looks exceptionally clean. This car is equipped with the highly desirable SLSS sound system which works flawlessly, as does the air conditioning and all other features. The original 1.5L 5E-FHE I4 has 134,768 km (83,741 miles) and runs flawlessly and the transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. With this motor being the same power plant as found in the Toyota Paseo and Tercel, the Sera is exceptionally reliable and mechanical parts are surprisingly easy to source. The car drives beautifully, feels solid at highway speeds, and is a joy to drive. It's entirely stock and is equipped with the very desirable Super Live Surround Sound (SLSS) system, which works very well. The glass canopy and butterfly doors are unlike anything found in this market segment, and truly sets the Toyota Sera apart from other 90’s Japanese icons. Recent work includes a full respray, new tires, a new battery, new door struts, and a full service.
