Up for your consideration is my 1991 Toyota NA MR2. Just for a little backstory I bought this car last year from Florida where it has spent its whole life. A gentleman in Florida bought this car new and sold to a family friend in 1998. I purchased the car from him last year making me the third owner. Car currently resides in New Orleans in a climate controlled garage. Clean car fax. No accidents or shady history. Car has tons of paperwork from the previous owner including the original window sticker. I decided to cut my inventory of cars a bit. I have 12 cars in my collection right now, five of which are MR2’s. Not motivated by any financial gain but could just use the floor space.
This is one of the nicest MR2’s I have seen. 100% bone stock all original and unmolested. I have a 93’ with 39k miles on it and I believe this one shows better. You hear it all the time, “time capsule”, but this truly is a trip to the past. I have only performed regular maintenance on the car. I replaced the shifter boot with a new OEM part. The original had a hole worn in it. The ash tray lid was cracking as they all do. Replaced with a brand new OEM part. I rebuilt the electric antenna aerial. The antenna would not go up and down so I rebuilt the unit with new OEM parts. It now works perfectly. And finally, I put a new set of reproduction floor mats in it. The originals are showing a lot of wear but will be included with the sale of the car. Obviously my intention was to keep the car 100% stock and fresh.
It’s hard to find any flaw with the interior. Car never smoked in. Seats still look brand new. No visible wear on the driver’s seat that you see on most. Carpet is perfect with no fading or wear. Dash and console are excellent. Power windows, door locks, clock, etc all work as they should. AC was converted to 134A by the previous owner and blows nice and cold. Original owner’s manual in the glove box. T-tops function properly and don’t appear to leak. Car has not seen rain in many years but I have tested with the hose while washing and have not found a drop of water in the car. Like new T-top storage bags included. (Interesting side note: Previous owner said in 17 years he never removed the tops so when I bought it I was wary there might be an issue but in fact they are perfect!)
As you can see the engine compartment is all original and unmolested. All stickers in place and shows very nice for a 25 year old car. The “frunk” is very clean and tidy. Spare appears to be unused and comes with the original complete tool kit. Battery has a date of 2/14 and works fine. I keep a battery tender hooked to all my cars and one will be included. The trunk carpet looks like new. Appears it’s been barely used, if at all.
The exterior shows very nice. Florida car its whole life so no rust issues at all. Headlights raise and retract as they should. All original paint with no dents or damage. Only paint flaws worth mentioning are a tiny scratch on the nose as seen in the photo. Shorter than the width of a dime. Second, the paint on the edge of the front bumper is showing through a bit. I believe this was from waxing with a machine rather than hand waxing. You wouldn’t see either of these unless you’re looking real close but I wanted to mention. I did get touch up paint mixed and have it ready for the new owner to apply if they would like. I just didn’t want to “hide” anything from a potential buyer. Overall a nicer paint job than what’s on your one year old minivan. It looks amazing for 25 years old. You won’t find one nicer even spending four times as much. Original rims are in nice condition. There is some curb rash on both rear rims. Not noticeable unless your close but worth mentioning. Could be easily repaired or you can get these rims pretty cheap if you want to be OCD like me. Just depends on how perfect you want to make it. Most go aftermarket anyways. Tires only have about 2,000 miles on them.
Car has 74,390 miles on it. Good to go for another 200,000. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive this car across country. A very, very nice unmolested car. Great weekend cruiser or a spotless platform for a build if you must. Comes with two keys and a third valet key. The only thing on the whole car that I am aware of that could use attention is the radio. It comes on and works fine but the volume doesn’t go real loud. Fine for talk shows but it’s not going to blow you out while you listen to your Def Leopard with the T-tops out. I was going to swap with another Toyota radio but never drove the car enough to matter. (Maybe just old speakers….) That’s it. Nothing else. No hidden issues. No shiny stuff smeared all over everything to make it look new. No Photoshop or pretty little lines vacuumed in the carpet. Just an honest clean car. Keep in mind the car is 25 years old so it’s not new but it is as nice as you will probably ever see. Depending on your state the car can be registered as a classic saving taxes. I have the car insured through Hagerty and its ridiculously cheap. I have a clear title in hand ready to transfer.
I’m 45 years old and collect cars as a hobby. Primarily MR2’s, Fiero’s, and Foxbody Mustangs. It’s not a business, nor do I make any money with it. I have a full time job for that. Pretty sure I lose in the long run but I really enjoy cars from my youth. I have bought and sold many cars, bikes, boats, etc on eBay. As you can see from my feedback I take my transactions very seriously. $500 deposit due via PayPal within 24 hours of auction end and remaining balance within 7 days via cash or cashier’s check if you must. If paying by cashier’s check I reserve the right to hold the car for 5 business days following payment or until check clears. Of course you can pick up the car in person. I would be happy to pick you up from the New Orleans airport (10 minutes away) and you can drive home. Make a vacation out of it. I can also make myself available for your shipper to pick up the car. I am not responsible for shipping but will work with you within reason.
I’m going to list the car with what I feel is a very reasonable reserve. I own quite a few MR2’s and am in tune with the market. I know it’s not a turbo, not a 94-95, and it’s not a show car but it is very nice and is priced accordingly. I am advertising the car locally so I may end the auction early but will only do so if the reserve has not been met. I will not pull the car once the reserve has been met. The car fax shows the third owner being registered in TN. That's my home. Car is located at my garage in New Orleans. I work in New Orleans during the week and am in TN on the weekends. Car has never been to TN. With notice I may be able to transport the car in my enclosed trailer to TN or along the route on the weekend for reasonable compensation.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or would like further specific photos. I will do my best to answer. Thank you for taking the time to view my auction.
