1988 Toyota Land Cruiser Additional Info:

Bought this 2 years ago and I've put a lot of work into it. Clean Carfax. Looks like I am the second owner.

Over $18k invested in it. $7,000 of that is in the engine alone . If you are looking for a mechanically sound FJ62, this is it. There will be no maintenance surprises, as all deferred maintenance has been caught up on. Many preventative services have been performed to protect and prolong the life of the truck. THE FRAME IS SOLID and rust proofed. The body has some rusted areas.

You might be able to find a truck with less body rust if it comes from down south or out west. But find out if the truck has been properly maintained. As you can see from below, if you have to catch up on the maintenance, the costs will add up. THIS TRUCK IS CAUGHT UP ON MAINTENANCE.

Original, 4.0 litre, inline six cylinder, electronically fuel injected engine (aka the 3fe). 4 speed automatic transmission with overdrive, manually front locking hubs for Toyota's legendary 4WD system. Vented power assist front disc brakes, 2 speed transfer case with one touch transfer case selector, front and rear stabilizer bars, power steering, power locks, power windows, chrome power side mirrors, tilt wheel, front and rear chrome bumpers, transfer case and fuel tank protectors, intermittent windshield wipers. Please note that the rear window wiper has been removed. The wiper motor is good, just needs a new wiper arm. Rear defrost works.

Custom seat covers, bed lined interior, exceptionally smooth 3fe engine. One of Toyota's best engines ever made, they routinely go 300,000 miles WHEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED. I added a transmission cooler when I replaced the radiator and thermostat. This engine and transmission can handle any terrain. Comes with Yakima cargo roof basket, trailer hitch, cargo mat, and bull bar. Upgraded Bosch 4 hole fuel injectors give it more get up and go- a responsive accelerator pedal, a silky smooth idle, and a slight improvement in gas mileage. Rear heater has been removed (fixing the notorious rear heater hose coolant leaking issue). Don't worry, the front heater is intense, and when you drive this on a cold day, you'll break a sweat inside this truck if you don't turn the heat down! A/C does not blow cold. Power windows and locks work. Full disclosure: the rear windows take a little longer to go up and down. The front passenger's window can be put down from the driver's side control, but for some reason it can only be put up from the passenger's side control. The driver's side window works well, and that's good since it's the one you are most likely to use most often.

I added a cup holder (holds 2 cups).

MECHANICALLY, NEEDS ALMOST NOTHING.

It prefers to take the back way home but has no problem humming along at 75mph. With bed lined interior and custom seat covers, you can clean this out in minutes with a leaf blower. Take a garden hose to the floor if you want to, it's water (and rust) proof. The undercarriage is rust proofed as well, so it's protected from both sides. With its leaf spring suspension and heavy duty frame, payload capacity for this truck is 2,000 pounds. With the back seats folded flat, there's SIX FEET of cargo area length. Back seats up and you still have four feet of cargo area.

This is Toyota's best version of a true SUV. Extremely off road capable, on pavement the FJ62 rides more like an SUV than a truck.

THE BAD

1) Radio antennae snapped off in car wash

2) While frame is solid and rust proofed, body has rust. In a car wash, a small amount of water can penetrate where the driver’s side doors meet the vehicle. New weather stripping would help, as would addressing the body rust. Since the interior of the truck is bed lined, all that really happens is the seat covers get a bit wet, and then they dry.

3) Brakes are good, but rear drums could be turned. When braking from 50mph or faster, the truck shimmies a little bit.
