SOOooo, this thing just crossed my path recently, and there was no way I could not buy it. This has been proven to be the ultimate overland expedition vehicle! Please watch the video about the truck here : https://expeditionportal.com/la-aduana-bio-diesel-toyota-dyna-firetruck-overland-camper/
Cool, huh? This very vehicle has the distinction of being the first vehicle, ever, to drive from the top of Alaska to the bottom of South America without buying or boring a drop of petroleum oil/ diesel!
This is a 1987 Toyota ‘Dyna’ firetruck from Tokyo that was purpose built with the help of many sponsors here in the Northwest USA to show off the possibilities/ benefits of alternative energies. This was used for years as a show/ display truck, running across the US of America doing presentations at schools and burning its own bio diesel which was made on board.
These Dynas never came with the big Landcruiser engines, but a 12H-T engine was sourced, rebuilt, and fitted into this truck. it actually scoots along pretty fast, and sounds TOUGH. Has a H55F 5-speed manual 4x4 transmission and transfer case in it with custom linkage, but this is only a 2WD truck, so there is no axle going to the front of the truck.
I should mention there is no rust on this truck.
There is A LOT of special/ custom equipment in this thing, a lot of which I do not know how to use. If I were to keep it, and I want to….. I would have to remove all of this stuff in order to make a 4 x 4 purpose-built camper. I think this would be a shame considering the provenance of the vehicle as it sits now, and it would be a lot of work for me, and I would not know what to do with all the cool gadgets on board.
There is a huge 200-gallon bio diesel generator in the back, as well as a totally separate bio-diesel tank to run engine from, also looks to be about 200 gallon! Conventional diesel tank still in original position.
Engine starts immediately, and transmission feels strong, but there are some funny noises coming from the transmission occasionally… I have found most of the noise seems to be coming from the parking brake drum rattlin, but I have not investigated further. Worst case scenario, if the H55F had to be rebuilt, figure on about $2500-$3000 to have that done at a toyota land cruiser specialist. If my asking price is met, I will have this all sorted out for the buyer.
I have put a couple hundred miles on this in the last week, and it drives amazingly.
I can not take this out without being mobbed by people with a lot of questions about it. If you want to mind your own business and go about your day, this is not a good vehicle for you.
In my opinion, this would make an INCREDIBLE food truck/ food car, camper, business prop, mobile catering truck, or a work truck. It has more compartments and cubbys than you will ever need. Seats 5 comfortably with seat belts.
Has as AWESOME stereo, with a lot of power that sounds great. It is RCA/ Mic jack onl, so no head unit - bring your iPhone/ipod.
Has 24V, 12V and even 110 systems on board. This has all been professionally done, nothing half-assed or questionable, everything has been over-engineered from the submarine-style locking bulkhead door to the very strong roof and the very intricate diesel systems and massive bio diesel holding tanks.
Has on board inverter with 750W of 110 volt power. Also has a very efficient air conditioning system installed in the cab. You can drive this in hot counties/ weather, people!
Tires look great. Clutch feels great. Engine could not be better.
130K KM on this truck, or about 80,000 original miles. This is not even broken in yet.
Did I mention the spiral staircase which unfolds easily out of the rear for easy access to the super-strong roof platform? Great place to set up your tent or lawn chairs for game day tailgate partying.
Has a massiv, very heavy stainless steel table which was used for displays which clips out of a side door - Door acts as awning and this would be a great place to have a mobile bar/ serve food. O, use it again as a demonstration vehicle…. you will definitely get a lot of attention wherever you park it.
I guess if this does not sell soon, I will likely take it apart and make a proper camper with larger inside dimensions and less cubby boxes. I need a delivery truck and a campe, and this could be both for m, if the cookie crumbles that way.

Yes, you can own this fire truck. It is an excellent overland adventure/ expedition vehicle!
