1993 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ-80 w/Lockers Additional Info:
And the story continues. If you look at my other car for sale I was originally going to build a 24 hours of lemons race car. Then when I realized I don’t have enough friends with free time and nobody likes me so I switched plans to casual off-road adventures. I was looking for a clean FZJ-80 with lockers as any cost effective person would since they are an amazing value in the bang for buck category, and came across this one owner truck. BUT THEN I find almost the exact same FJ-62 Landcruiser I had in high school, which somehow was driven down from Alaska and resided in the same city I drove my truck in in the same years I lived there. Crazyness. So I have to defer to the FJ62 and sell the FZJ80, even though the 80 has lockers and the 62 does not it just feels like a higher power is pushing me in that direction so up for sale is the FZJ-80 and below are the details. It has a clean Carfax, one owner had it for 23 years and some change, no wrecks, no issues. Autocheck on ebay says 3 owners no idea where it is getting that from, original purchaser had it for its entire life minus like 9 months where they transferred it to their nephew for sale. Trust me when I buy something for a project I don’t start off with garbage.
Exterior: Exterior wise it is in pretty darn good shape. Carfax shows no accidents recorded ever and I don’t see any evidence of body work being done other than the left front door being a lighter color than the back which could be a re-spray on that door or just the way the vehicle was parked in the sun. Has a few dings from being a daily driver for 25 years but no real damage. Does have a few minor rust spots, but nothing serious, undercarriage is actually in darn good shape. No bad rust anywhere, frame is ok, exhaust has some surface rust but nothing major. I put corrosion inhibitor on the spots to stop them, only a few spots worth mentioning, really common spot under the liftgate glass on the left side (they all get this), roof in a couple spots, and bottom of passenger rear door. Again it is nothing that can’t be fixed and nowhere near as bad as a lot of the other “clean” Landcruisers I looked at. No cracks in any of the glass, all the lights work, all the doors open and close fine from all handles, left hood strut is blown but liftgate struts work great. Wipers work, power antenna does not which is real common for any 90’s car. All the power windows work except the left rear, needs a regulator repair no biggie. Obviously the fuel door is missing, no idea how he managed that but the screws are there just needs a new one screwed on or leave it off whatever. The paint is in pretty good shape, can still be shined up if you want, looks original for the most part, all in all would be perfectly fine as a mix of on road off road duty. Use it as your DD or use it as your trail rig, looks great doing both.
Interior: Interior wise it is in decent shape. The drivers carpet definitely has some coffee stains, the rest of the carpet is ok, but I was going to rip it out and bed liner it anyways. The bottoms of the front seats are missing leather as is very common, but the seat backs and head rests are good, as are the back seats. As is common with all of these older FZJ-80 cruisers the power seat tracks stripped the plastic gears and won’t go back or forward (good excuse to put better seats in). Luckily with a cordless impact you can easily scoot them back or forth with the 12mm screws at the front of each rail. I have them all the way back right now and honestly if you’re the only one that drives it why would you need to adjust them more than once so who cares. Typical LandCruiser, has a backup method to the main method so that when it breaks, you just keep on using it. The rest of the power seat functions work fine. All of the switches and electrical items work fine aside from the sunroof. The switch is disconnected because the left rail is broken, so it won’t seal right and leak water if you open it. I was just going to seal it shut to prevent any leaks but it hasn’t leaked on me yet just don’t open it. You can look but don’t touch situation basically hah. The horn, signals, radio, heat/air, etc… all work fine. The door locks work, cruise works, turn signals, all of the gauges, there are no warning lights on, no cracks in the dash, it is missing the 3rd row seats and the spare tire is in the back because I am too lazy to put it back under the truck. A/C is warm, needs Freon otherwise the whole system is there. Typical for anything this old at this point. Not much else to say, perfectly nice to drive. Oh the reverse indicator bulb is burned out the rest work fine, radio backlight is iffy. All other lights work fine.
Mechanical: Mechanically it needs nothing to drive as is. It doesn’t smoke, leak, knock, tick, overheat etc…. Has strong oil pressure, trans shifts like butter does not slip (this is a 1993 so it has the “Bus” transmission that is way overbuilt for a truck this size and better for off-road use), transfer case and lockers work fine as well. Suspension doesn’t make any noises, drives fine no vibrations etc… It has matching Michelin tires all around heck it also has Michelin windshield wipers hah. This was a one owner truck its whole life so it was well taken care of. The headgasket and valve cover gasket have already been done and it had a tune up not long ago. It needs like 3x minor things, some tires because these are old and dry rotted, an alignment because you should do those with a new set of 4 tires, and the brakes bled because they are soft for me but work fine. Actually now that I think about it the brakes do squeak so it might need pads/rotors looked at which could explain the softness, but it will get you home as is as long as the old Michelins hold together. Just basic maintenance but if you’re going to put some off-road tires on it like I was going to then this is part of the work you’re going to do anyways! Engine runs super smooth, fires right up every time, has a new radiator from when they did the headgasket and they even used the proper Toyota Red coolant not some BS aftermarket green/yellow $hit. Battery holds a charge great, I have kept it tended to and driven ever so often, if you let it sit for a long time and then hammer the gas it will smoke one puff lets be real it has 330k miles give it break, but does not smoke regularly or burn a lot of oil or anything. Power steering works great, engine bay is really clean. The 93-94 trucks were the best in my opinion due to the Lockers, 4.5L DOHC 1FZ-FE engine, with OBD1 electronics and Bus transmission. Perfect off-road truck for sure! This one has never been off-road yet, one owner family truck that has been loved it’s whole life and has a ton of good karma/juju/memories to set you off on the right path! Due to the dry rotted tires I have to recommend you tow / ship it but that is up to you it is a free country after all!
