1982 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40 Additional Info:
What you see here is an original 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 that has been on the road for 35 years. She runs great and has been well maintained, pull the choke, turn the key, and she bursts to life every time. Even after sitting idle for weeks. You can see exactly what you're getting here.
I have collected/purchased OEM parts, many brand new to bring her back to original while maintaining her patina. Survivors may not be perfect, yet that is, in many cases, what makes her patina desirable.
This truck spent the majority of its life in the dry desert of Las Vegas, then Big Bear, California for seven years and now Carlsbad, CA for the last 5 years. I can attest to the fact that this truck is rare, I searched for 7 years for a 1982/83 FJ40 before finding her! Toyota sold very few FJ40's in the US market from 1981 to 1983, there are likely less than 100 1982 FJ40's still on the road. Recent auction prices are over $60k for a fully restored 1982 FJ40
Details & Condition
The truck has the patina that come with 35 years of age but any owner would be proud of her overall condition. She drips a bit of oil and could use a few new seals. A past owner cut out rust on the rear quarter panels, put in new sheet metal and installed diamond plate. I removed the diamond plate and planned to have the holes closed/welded when I had her painted but grew to really like her patina. The Toyota 2F inline six cylinder retains all the original emission/smog equipment and runs great, passing CA emissions! Clutch, 2WD and 4WD transmission and transfer case are in good working order. This FJ40's body, undercarriage and frame are solid. There is a rust hole on the passenger side front floor plan (see picture)
The front seat interior is brand new and is as close to OEM out there, orginal elephant vinyl ($700+) from Metric TLC, and new original Toyota OEM door panels ($300) installed. New OEM sun visors are installed ($300) as is a OEM Radio 5222 (model No. 86120-89118). I also installed a refurbished heater that has been completely restored ($400) from Metric TLC. The turn signals, hazards, headlight high and low beams, wipers, taillights, backup lights, odometer, speedometer, fuel, oil, amp and temp gauges all function. I have a new headliner that is ready to be installed. This truck's suspension consists of rugged solid axles with a 3-4" leaf spring lift. At the back of the truck's frame are new bumperettes and in the front a new OEM front bumper . Under it all you will find OEM 15 inch six spoke chrome rims with WARN locking hubs surrounded by 5 brand new 33' BFG Mud Terrain tires ($1200) and new Old Man Emu shocks and steering stabilizer (~$1000). Front disc brakes and rotors were replaced within last 500 miles.
This Land Cruiser has been driven and maintained over the years and runs great. The odometer currently reads 219,000 miles. The whole truck reeks with survivor status.
