1991 Toyota Land Cruiser VX 297k KM (184k miles). 1HD-T engine, Auto tranny. HDJ81 Located in Toronto area, Ontario. (150km from Buffalo, NY). Production date is August 1991, so its importable to US without any issues. For 25+ year old vehicles, importing from Canada is a very straight forward process that requires nothing more than filling out a form and paying duty on the value that you declare at customs.
Please note, that the vehicle has a JDM VIN number, and ebay system wouldn't recognize it and wouldn't allow me to post without "valid" VIN, so I posted the first VIN number that I found on google. Truck is registered in Ontatio, Canada and has a clean title.
Bought this truck a few months ago to replace a LX450 that i had. It had a few major issues that prompted the previous owner to sell it. He had it since it was imported to Canada. I intended to keep it, but upon fixing all these issues, i found out that it's impossible to get reasonably priced insurance for it in my province, as only "high risk" insurance companies will insure a "modified" RHD. I just cant justify paying $250 per month for something that would be a weekend toy (in addition to 3 other cars and a bike that i have insured).
So regrettably, i have decided to sell it. I have put over 100 hours of work into it. All the work was done by me, exactly per FSM, using only OEM parts.
The good:
-Triple differential locks. All working.
-4" Rancho lift (caster correction bushings in front). 35" BFG A/T's
-ARB front bumper with WARN 9.5XP winch /w wireless controller. 2 Rigid LED lights on bumper.
- Engine and transmission is in superb condition. No known issues. Only used Amsoil synthetic oil since the truck came to Canada in 2008. Amsoil severe gear 75W90 in axles. Have receipts for everything. Engine starts instantly, literally the instant ignition key makes contact.
- BEB's were done when it was imported.
- Rebuilt front axle/steering knuckles with all OEM parts, including wheel bearings. (done by me when i bought it)
- Timing belt/water pump done by previous owner just before he sold it to me.
-New torque converter for the tranny (the main reason why the truck was sold). I replaced it, along with rear main oil seal and front tranny seal (OEM).
- Webasto diesel-powered coolant heater with thermostat. $1000+ unit with $1000+ installation cost (done by previous owner, have receipts).
- Snorkel.
- All windows, locks, and everything important is working.
-Pioneer MP3 deck with JL speakers and bazooka (powered) subwoofer. Subwoofer currently disconnected due to torn wire.
-Greddy boost gauge, turbo timer, 110V block heater, oem compass, laptop stand, compustar remote starter (needs battery) and a few other things im forgetting.
-VX model, so it's "fully loaded" with beer fridge, ice maker, climate control, cruise control, compass/altimeter, sunroof, etc.
-Mechanical injection pump, fully hydraulic transmission. No ECU's.
The bad:
-Truck has been in Canada for 9 years. Although it spend most of this time in BC and Alberta, its has some rust issues on some panels. No holes though. Most notably the bottom of doors, and some bubbling around the top of the windshield. Except for doors, most of the body panels are rust free though. Undercarriage is in good shape. Some surface rust here and there, but nothing major. Some metal lines for brakes/fuel look like they will need replacing soon. I could've "touched up" the door rust to make it prettier on the pictures, but i don't want to hide anything .
-ARB bumper and fairlead has some surface rust in some places. Again, pretty easy to touch up but i'll leave that to new owner.
-Brake pedal is soft, but brakes great.
- The previous owner had a dog that liked to scratch seats. There are some holes in some of the seats, mainly a big one on the passenger seat.
- There is rattle inside the muffler that is annoying. On the outside the muffler looks great, and it works great (it muffles just fine), but something broke off inside that is causing the rattle. Sometimes it goes away when it warms up, sometimes it doesnt.
- There is no parking brake. Parking brake shoes were worn to almost bare metal, and the lining broke off and caused the brakes to bind. I was going to replace them, but they sent me the wrong part. So right now it has NO parking brake shoes. It has disc brakes in the back (work fine), so parking brakes are a separate system.
- The bushings on sway bar and shocks are worn. Again, i bought new ones to replace them but they wouldn't fit. So there are associated clunks in the suspension. The bushings for these older Rancho shocks seem to be discontinued.
- Bfg A/T's will need to be replaced soon.
- Brand new full size 35" spare tire, but i don't currently have a rim for it. I will try to find one before it's sold, but no promises.
-A/C was has a slow leak and needs to be charged every 2 years (as per previous owner). It currently needs to be charged, so it doesnt work.
-There is some sort of issue with the drivers seat track. It clicks sometimes and will move back and forth about 1/2".
- Normal wear and tear as you would expect from a 25 year old truck. This is not a "show truck". There are numerous small scratches, small dents, etc. But the truck has never been in an accident (to the best of my knowledge).
-Previous owner was an electrician, and it shows. There is a whole bunch of various wires in the engine bay. I have no idea what most of them are for, but everything seems to work. I hate wires.
-I haven't driven the truck except on small streets around the house, so there might be other issues that im not aware of. The previous owner was very thorough though, and i have described everything to the best of my knowledge. I had a buddy with a dealer plate take it for a quick spin up to highway speeds, and it worked great, no new issues were discovered.
I will consider taking $1500 off the final price if I keep the front bumper with winch. I don't have a replacement bumper, so if you chose this option, the truck will come with NO front bumper. I will also consider knocking $500 off for the Webasto heater, if you remove it yourself and mail it to me (i will then refund you $500) I will be happy to answer any questions, or assist the buyer with transportation/shipping in any way i can.
Truck is also for sale on other websites, so I reserve to end the auction early.
