This is a no reserve auction whatever it goes for it goes for.
Long story short up until about a week ago this car was my daily driver, loved it drove it, completely stock other than the wheels. It is an all original 1991 MR2 Turbo T-Top, and yes it is a factory Turbo car not a swap, clean clear title with no wrecks on carfax no rust and no evidence of paint work minus a touchup spot on the drivers door. I’ve had all the maintenance done regularly never beat on it, has all kinds of brand new stuff on it, fully intended for it to be a daily driver for awhile. A week ago the turbo gave up, one day the car was perfect, the next it would not build boost and had a ton of smoke coming out of the exhaust. The car otherwise runs and drives great, it just doesn’t have the turbo helping anymore and it can kill every insect in your neighborhood. It is wayyy too much smoke and it happened way too fast to be rings or valve seals plus the engine still has great compression and idles fine. When you shut the engine off the smoke continues to come out of the exhaust from the oil still burning off the inside of the turbine. It really is not that hard to get to the turbo on this thing but I got a promotion at the exact same time and have to drive a 4-door vehicle around to haul people with regardless. SO that being said I do not have time or a reason to fix the car, get yourself a good CT-26 or hell do an upgrade and you have a nice turbo car. Now that is out of the way let’s talk about the rest of the car.
Interior: Interior wise this car shines, straight 8/10 even considering its age. The carpet is damn near perfect, all of the pieces are there including the T-Top shades which are also in great shape. No tears in the factory leather seats but it did sit out in the sun at some point prior to me (I garage it) so the leather is tight, I’ve put a ton of conditioning stuff on them. The dash has no cracks but is pulled up a little around the defrost vents which you can’t even see sitting in the car and is very common easily fixed with some glue. Most of the electronic stuff works fine, one of the speakers is dead and the radio sometimes just doesn’t want to work but the power antenna goes up and down perfectly which is crazy considering the car’s age. The tach and speedo are dead on the gauges, it has been like this since I bought it luckily the 91-92 clusters are cheap and easy to come by, mileage shows 83k on the odo but Carfax says 183k, not sure if it is a typo but based off the steering wheel/shift knob I’d say the car actually has 183k. Other than that and a crack in the shifter bezel the inside is damn near perfect and all stock.
Exterior: Exterior wise the car also shines. Literally. I am not very good at waxing buffing cars so I never bothered other than purchasing the nice ride through car washes. The T-Tops do not leak one single drop of water, the seals are great! All the lights work as they should as do the opening and closing of all the doors gas tank door trunk frunk t-tops wipers etc… With a good wax job the paint would be beautiful. It has a big touch up paint spot on the drivers door where I have no idea what happened but it is there. The roof has a few minor dings and one small clear coat fade spot. The front bumper has one indent on the bottom but is otherwise in great shape, no cracks like they normally have from being curbed, could easily be heated out. Overall considering its age an being a DD the car is a survivor for sure. Just look at the pics I can’t make this up. No cracks in the glass either.
Mechanical: So I’ve already covered the main portion of this up top in the effort of being totally honest. The rest of the car is great, transmission shifts good into all gears no grinds or noises, clutch engages right in the middle like a good clutch should. The timing belt was done about 30k ago, the water pump, belt tensioner, and oil pump were done at the same time. The spark plugs/wires/cap were done before I got it and are probably coming due at some point. They also told me they did the fuel filter. Car tracks straight alignment is good I just put 4x brand new properly staggered size tires on the rare ass era correct Konig V-Racing wheels (they are light as hell). Has a bunch of fresh lug nuts I replaced any that had corrosion, the wipers are new bosch items, and it HAD a brand new battery in it but I am keeping that for my new car. So you’ll need to get a battery but that is easy obviously, I can throw this one in to test drive it if you want. It does have a CEL on for the o2 sensor which showed up directly after the turbo shit the bed I would imagine probably because a chunk of the turbine took it out as it is mounted right behind the turbo. Other than that the car is great, no leaks, no noises, never overheats, steers stops drives just fine. Still has the bigger factory turbo brakes of course, no exhaust leaks, sounds good and stock. But due to the turbo I would recommend you have it towed.
Any other questions feel free to ask, the car is an amazing and rare starting point if you want one of these and know how to do a few basic wrenching tasks but are not a wealthy aristocrat.
