1992 Toyota Land Cruiser Additional Info:

So here it is. The long sought after time capsule FJ80 Land Cruiser. This is my family’s 1992 Toyota Land Cruiser with under 94k miles on it. Yes, you read that right. A FJ80 with under (barely) 94k miles. My father bought this in December 1994 in Atlanta with 40k miles on it for his summer home in Maine. MAINE??? Before you click away thinking it’s another northern car........... This Land Cruiser lived in his summer home garage 8 months a year, every year for the last 22 years. It was only woken from its naps between June and September. It literally has seen snow one time in 1994 when we drove it up there while I was still in high school. My Dad took impeccable care of it. Literally 75% of the miles he put on it were between Mount Dessert Island (Bar Harbor area) and the Bangor Airport as he traveled for business. He handed it off to me when he recently bought a GL550 Mercedes at the beginning of the summer. I drove it back to Greenville SC a couple of months ago when my family came home from summer vacation. We made some stops in NYC DC etc so it made sense to drive and sell it here.
I recently bought an Audi S8 and that should serve my once yearly winter storm need in South Carolina. I have a fleet of cars including M5, S600 etc and we already own another large modified diesel truck. As awesome as it is, we don't have the space to keep it indoors the way it needs to be kept.
The furthest this truck has ever been off road is probably an unimproved driveway when my parents have looked at property in Maine. It really is a rare find. Always responsibly adult owned and maintained. Bullet proof reliable. The only time it has ever left my dad was when he left the interior light on at the airport and was gone for a week. That’s not the trucks fault.
He never allowed eating in the car ever. The interior shows it. It looks like a showroom truck. This is the last year of the bulletproof 3FE engine. You can look it up on Wikipedia but these engines are low stressed, simple, reliable and have extreme longevity. Not powerful at all but you know it will never leave you by the side of the road (or trail) if you maintain it. Will cruise at 80 even if it takes a little bit to get there. This truck does have the center locking differential as well as 4-Lo unlike most of these so called car SUVs today. Shifts great. AC is ice cold. I have driven it the last two months and it just runs.
My Dad did make one major improvement to the car. The stereo. Land Cruisers come with truly awful stereo’s by default. I mean awful. He had a custom audio system installed with the amplifier hidden behind the rear interior quarter panel. Alpine 9815 head (can do 24db slope high, low, sub crossover for you audiophiles) Sirius Satellite radio. The Polk DB speakers in the front doors were custom mounted with the tweeters in the top of the doors. The subwoofer is in a sealed enclosure for smooth bass.
Maintenance-New brakes front and rear in Summer 2015 at Toyota in Bangor ME.-New Battery Summer 2016-Yearly Mobile 1 10W-30 oil changes in Septembers before my parents left town. This means basically every 2500-3000 miles. - It was always stored with Stabil in the gas tank and the battery disconnected.-All fluids/filters/plugs have been changed in the last five years. This includes differentials, transmission, coolant. This means in the last 15000 miles.-Tires have tons of tread. Cooper tires. No dry rot. See pictures.
Things I would fix or change-I would also respray the rear bumper. Its starting to peel a little bit. Also the trailer hitch is 22 years old and could probably use a good sanding but its not bad.
- I will fix the drivers side tail light. Discovered the bulb was burned out when I took pictures tonight.
If you have questions, please let me know. I encourage you to come see it and test drive. They don’t make them like this anymore. It really is a special truck.
