1905 Suzuki Sidekick Hat Trick Limited Additional Info:
Imported from Tokyo, Japan where it had one owner. The VIN numbers there are different than in the US and the Ebay listing requirementswouldn't accept it. We've had it a year. Bought it to tow behind an RV when we retire. It looks as good in person as it does in photos. We had no problem registering it here in AZ. Insurance is with GEICO. As for driving a right hand drive vehicle it took about 2 minutes. Really it is no big deal. The hardest part was getting used to the turn signal being on the right side of steering wheel.
This cute ute is very original. The only non original thing about it is the stereo. We put in a Bluetoothdeck for hands free calls. No cutting or anything to the car. Everything works. Every light, gage, instrument, etc. Fog lights. The speedo and odometer is in kilometers. Again it's easy to deal with when driving. When we got it last year, it still had original tires on it from '93 so we decided to play it safe and replace all the parts that don't age well.
In the last year we have done the following: New tires (about 2K on them now), AC belt, Alt belt, Timing belt, Water pump, Radiator flush and 100K mile coolant added, all new hoses, new cap and rotor, new plugs and wires, oil change to Mobil One and oil filter, New battery, Air filter changed to K&N, transmission fluid drained and refilled with synthetic, rear diff drained and filled with synthetic, windows tinted, and I believe that's everything. Drive this car anywhere.
We have taken it on several trips to Tucson, which is about 140 miles from our house. It cruised at 85 mph no problem. No vibrations or pulling. AC blows ice cold. We also took it on a dirt road to test the 4x4. It engaged and worked properly. It has 4 high and 4 low and real off road ability. It is rear wheel drive. I don't think the back seats have ever been sat in. We leave them folded up. There's plenty of room in back for a trip to Costco. I feel it's better than any of the current mini SUVs on the market. Most of those are front wheel drive, don't offer 4Low and they all have 4 doors. Plus it's nice having something that doesn't look like every other car in the parking lot.
It's really hard to believe this Suzuki is 26 years old. It was stored indoors all of it's life and has been well cared for and it really shows. This was the top of the line and not sold in US. In the US it was sold as a Chevy Tracker and Suzuki Sidekick. We have original owner's manual but since our Japanese is a bit weak we bought a Tracker manual so we could best care for this car.
We were told that mail carriers really like right hand drive with 4WD if they drive on rural routes.
The bad: The paint is about an 8.5 because there are some scratches and a spot about the size of a dime where the paint was etched from possibly bird poo. The body is a 9.5. No dings or dents. There is a scuff in the front bumper on passenger side. That's it on exterior. The interior is very close to a 10. The only thing keeping it from a true 10 are some scuffs around the ignitionwhere I guess keys have rubbed and marked the plastic. Small star in windshield that we had repaired and filled.
The good: I'd drive across the country tomorrow without a worry. Everything that needed replaced was replaced. Low 24K original miles which is incredible and unheard of. The yellow fog lightsare factory original and they work. Original condition in all ways. Like new car. Real 4WD. Power options of power door locks, power windows and power mirrors. The seats are like new. No wear or tear. It needs nothing. Every little thing works. Gets great mpg. Inexpensive to insure. We've never seen another. Has the window vent covers (nice when it rains) and they were not offered in the US. Saw them for sale at $500 for a set on a Japanese car part website.
Even though it's low miles and in excellent condition, please ask questions and get an inspection in order to make an informed decision. We have postponed our retirement and don't drive it enough. We can store for a few weeks. Buyer to arrange and pay for shipping.
