1988 Suzuki Samurai 4x4
VIN# JS4JC51C814266939
162,000 miles (quite a few tow-behind), wired for towing w/ rear brake, tail, and turn signals. May increase slightly as I like to drive it to work a few times a week.
1.3L Sumo II Motor rebuilt 20K ago. 4 wheel drive works great. No leaks that I can tell (leaves no marks on pavement).
New tires in 2013, Soft top and doors are in excellent condition. Tinted windows on doors.
Factory air conditioning that blows COLD. Buyer will need to purchase a hard-top separately for maximum effectiveness. Also wired with an auxiliary blower that increases the A/C and heat output.
Meticulous maintenance notes, original owner’s manual, Hayne’s Manual, AND Suzuki Factory Service Manual (will send via e-mail), tow-bar and 2000 lb. winch included. Factory tool kit included also. Has mounts both front and back for the winch. It even comes with an original factory key! Has an auxiliary cooling fan although the stock cooling system works fine. Everything works – wipers, windshield washer, lights, turn-signals, hazards, radio, all gauges, etc…Does have an aftermarket radio with Aux input. Four aftermarket speakers sound great. Comes with a rear seat (not currently installed). Previous owner installed a high-quality Cobra CB radio, after-market tach, and oil pressure gauge. All which can be easily removed if the buyer chooses.
Clean Carfax, Clean Arizona title, Stock with no suspension or engine mods outside the rebuild. New plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, PCV, fuel filter, and Optima Yellow Top battery all in the last month. I also have new in the wrapper front brake rotors and pads that I may or may not get a chance to put on for the sale. If not, they will come with the truck.
I am the 4th owner to best of my knowledge. I recently purchased the truck for use as a daily driver and for some trail exploring, however, I just received military orders to Oceanside, CA and I need to sell. When I say "need to sell", I don't mean at a low-ball price. It's not that critical. This “Sammy” is in excellent condition despite being 28 years old. It is an Arizona truck so there is no rust to speak of however it does have little minor dings and normal wear and tear on the paint you might expect from a rig from the 80’s. This little truck is reliable, easy to work on, and will go just about anywhere. I get numerous compliments every time I drive it. It cruises down the highway at 60-65 mph and is great on gas. So many possibilities…daily driver, off-road ATV, restoration project, extreme modification platform, rock climber – or all of the above. Parts are abundant through EBay and Samurai specific parts dealers. Motor has roughly 20,000 miles since rebuild so it has lots of life left in her. 5-speed manual transmission shifts great and the clutch has plenty of life left in it. I average between 21 and 23 MPG. There just aren’t many around anymore that are in this good of condition and unmolested. A Samurai with factory A/C is a rare bird indeed!
Things that will need attention:
- Previous owner let the vehicle sit for 6 months right after buying new tires. There is a “wobble” at speeds over 65 mph. Not dangerous – just noticeable. No issues at speeds 60 mph and under. Will need tires if the wobble bothers you.
- Two snaps on the soft-top will need replaced. Does not affect the fit.
- As stated before, dings and cosmetic things both inside and out. Nothing major.
