1979 Subaru BRAT Additional Info:
This is a really nice and quite rare 1979 Subaru BRAT with under 79K original miles.
Prior to my purchase of this car last year, it was used for many years by the previous owner at a boy scout camp in PA and put away in the winter months. This car has been garaged for the last 14 months since I have owned it and it does get driven occasionally.
The engine starts right up even in cold weather with no smoke or leaks. The tires were replaced by previous owner and are in great shape. The 4 speed transmission shift beautifully and the 4WD system engages smoothly and functions as it should.
The front brakes including calipers were replaced with new parts. Plugs, filters and battery were replaced. Vacuum lines and any wiring issues were replaced or repaired. leaky valve covers were given new gaskets.
The previous owner coated the undercarriage and engine bay with motor oil in an effort to prevent rust. This oil did its job for the most part on this BRAT as there are only a few areas of surface rust on the upper body. There is a small area of rust under the accelerator pedal and also small hole on the passenger side floor. Rear shock towers are rust free.
This BRAT is equipped with a dealer installed A/C unit that was converted to use R134A, but the unit is currently not working.
The paint on this car looks great and as said before, there are few small areas of surface rust where chips were not touched up. It has had one repaint as far as I can tell and there is only one spot on a lower rear rocker that has filler. It appears that the front fenders were replaced at the time of the repaint.
The interior is in fantastic shape with exception of a few small cracks in thedash top.I installed a fitted, carpeted dash cover. All lights, switches, radio, heater, wipers, windows function perfectly, and the Citizen clock keeps perfect time! The plaid upholstery is in great shape with only a small tear at the bottom of the driver's side backrest. Carpets are ingood shape.
The exhaust system aft of the catalytic convertor should be replaced, but it is not loud or offensive.
The jump seats are not currently mounted to the bed, but I do have them as well as the headrests. There are no brackets for the jump-seats but they could be fabricated fairly easily.
This little BRAT runs and drives fantastic and can be driven anywhere. It tracks straight, rides smooth and can keep up with traffic. It also turns heads and gets a LOT of attention!
If you are looking at this ad, you already know how rare it is to find a first generation Subaru BRAT in a nice driver qualitycondition.
Thanks for looking.
