1979 SUBARU DL FWD STATION WAGON
Up for sale/adoption is my baby, nearly 40 years old, vintage 1979 SUBARU DL Station Wagon.
(Yes…there is even a cute little “OUTBACK” emblem too on the back)! Front Wheel Drive. ****This is a 5 SPEED Overdrive wagon.*****(These were typically rare back in the day. You can actually drive this car on the highway over 55mph without having the engine scream! Most were 4 speeds and automatics). This car has been in the family for 23 years and was just 16 years old when it came to us. We are a SUBARU family with a vast mechanical knowledge about these cars and it’s reflected in the maintenance of this car. You are not just getting this car, but will get my expertise, advice and assistance after the sale. Just give me a call! However, with a big move planned in the future and moving closer to retirement, it’s time to make some edits in life.
This car is a native Texas car and because of that, has lived its life in a mostly dry environment and absolutely never saw likes of northern winter salt. It’s essentially rust free top to bottom and you would be hard pressed to find another SUBARU of this vintage in this condition. There is some very minor superficial rust that is at the bottom of one of the rear doors, but that is from most likely some dust/dirt accumulation in the very bottom seam of the door. That is an easy fix! I will even include some complete spare doors, but it would be totally unnecessary to replace the door for this minor rust. (Keep them in case you get into a fender bender in the future)! I will also include MANY, YES MANY!!!! spare parts, both new and used to have for possible future use. Parts can be elusive for these vintage cars, so it’s always good to have a little stockpile of things tucked away!
The car is mechanically near perfect. I have much documentation on the car. The car is tagged, recently inspected and road ready. The car is regularly started and driven, but has had VERY low mileage for many years. Car has an older repaint. Car is not “showroom”, it does have some door dings and there are some other minor hail type “dings” present, but the car presents very nicely! The dash does have some typical vinyl cracking from age, thus why I have a cover for it.
This SUBARU is “unmolested” and as close to original condition as possible. There have been NO modifications and all repairs/maintenance have been done professionally and keeping in the spirit of originality, right down to the new pedal pads, new NOS rear spoiler, new NOS keys and the brand new NOS shift knob! Car is collision free.
Everything works in this car as it should. All switches, buttons, dials, levers and such WORK. Even the AC…(Converted to 134A) operational! (The AC systems in these older SUBARUS were never that great, even from new. They were just too small).
I am willing to take any additional pics you might want. I can also do some video of the car running. I can assist to arrange transportation of the car to you. (However transportation costs are your responsibility). If you would decide to come to TX to pick up the car, I might have some options to help you with a flight.
The car is tagged, inspected and road ready.
HIGHLIGHTS:
1.6 liter OHV, pushrod engine. (These engines last nearly forever)! Mileage showing 59924. I cannot attest to that, as the VIN is not the newer 17 digit searchable and I have not had the car since new. I feel it’s accurate though. MANY, MANY parts replaced over the years. (Shocks, radiator, drums, rotors, exhaust, heater valve, front windshield rubber weatherstrip, etc)
MISC Comments:
Fresh, synthetic oil change, good brakes, good clutch, transmission shifts flawlessly and has no issues, NEW tires, leather wrapped steering wheel, new pedal pads, seats in great shape, aftermarket stereo with speaker box in rear, dash cover, floor mats, complete owner’s manual and supplements, halogen headlights, fresh carburetor rebuild, new starter, good CV halfshafts, Steering parts replaced and tight. All original glass. There is so much more, just can’t list all the good about this car!!!
Original equipment. Lighted ashtray, wheel arch molding, body side molding, rear wiper washer defroster, AC, clock, (still works fine),reclining seats, lockable glove box, tachometer.
Again, I will include additional sheet metal, many spare parts and even an original service manual and sales brochure!
