Some people say it’s better to burn out than fade away and that’s the route Studebaker took during the 1960s with its four-seat halo car, the Avanti.
This example, made at Studebaker’s South Bend, Indiana factory, this car was sold new at Ed Comitz Studebaker in Tucson, Arizona on November 15, 1963.
Though it was only around dealerships for a short time, the Avanti, which is Italian for forward or onward, quickly drew comparisons to Ford’s Thunderbird and Chevrolet’s Corvette in the early 1960s.
This coupe is finished in Avanti White (code 6331), which has undergone one repaint since new. The car’s paint and trim are in very good order and the color does nothing to diminish the Avanti’s styling, which looks as distinctive now as it did when new.
