This 1963 Studebaker R1 Avanti is in excellent restored condition showing 68,000 actual miles and sports a striking "Avanti Turquoise" exterior with a "Fawn" colored interior.This outstanding fiberglass sports carretains its original detailed 289 cubic inch R1 V8 - 240 horsepower engine. The 4 barrel carbureted engine idles and revs very smooth with a rumble of (factory similar) dual glasspack exhausts. The automatic transmission shifts smooth and consistently. The car has power steering and power front disc brakes andboth function correctly. The fiberglass body, interior, engine and engine compartment have been completely restored and everything on the car, including theAM radio, works well. The paint is excellent and the chrome is deep and brilliant. The car has newer original style (period correct) bias ply narrow white sidewall tires in good condition with no cracking and with plenty of tread. Mechanically, electrically, and cosmetically this car is ready to drive and show. ThisAvanti drives straight and true down the road with no brake pull. The steering box is nice and tight with no play in the steering. This Avanti is extremely fun to drive and proud to show at events.

This Studebaker sports car has always been in climate controlled garage since restored and has been shown primarily at Studebaker Drivers Club events since the 1990's. This design classic is owned, operated and maintained by a family of dedicated and mechanically knowledgeable enthusiasts whose grandfather and father once owned and worked at the family's Studebaker dealership in northeastern Illinois.

A little automotive history: This beautifulAvanti was designed by a team of handpicked designer-stylists by world renowned Industrial Designer Raymond Loewy.Mr. Loewyset upa styling studioin a rented house in Palm Springs California explicitly for the Studebaker Avanti design project. Famed designers Raymond Loewy, John Epstein, Tom Kellogg, Robert Andrews and Bob Doehler were the key stylists who brought to life this brilliant styling tour de force - futuristic automobile. Today these Industrial Design legendsare the acknowledged Studebaker Avanti "Hero Stylists" to members of the (SDC) "Studebaker Drivers Club" and the (AOAI) "Avanti Owners Association International" car clubs.
