Here's American and European sporting heritage mixed into a distinct and vintage package. This 1962 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk has been given a custom exterior that takes this coupe from unique to a truly one-of-a-kind creation. The design of the Gran Turismo was an interesting evolution. It took the hardtop coupe penned by the legendary Raymond Loewy and updated it in '62 to fit in with the Mercedes-Benz vehicles that were being sold out of Studebaker dealers at... the time. And this one takes that that idea to a whole new level. The custom stacked quad headlights and clean front bumper combine with the factory mesh grille to really give this American-made classic some German flair. In fact, as you look over the whole body, they really went for a far sleeker attitude, and this is best seen in the profile. Side vents, hardtop trim, and door handles were expertly eliminated. The full-length side trim has been deleted, and in its place, a distinct black pinstripe provides a dividing line for the attractive red and silver two-tone. And as you pour over all the custom details, like custom taillights, deleted marker lights, and even the custom LEDs underneath the car, you still can see the great classic lines that make this a distinct Studebaker. So this is still a vintage American, right down to the whitewalls with factory-style wheel covers. Pop the remote door openers to reveal an interior that's as attractive as the exterior. The low-back bucket seats have a nice mix of black vinyl for the high traffic areas and comfortable silver velour for where you sit. This coordinates nicely with the door panels, headliner, carpeting, and even the dash. And there is a level of quality - right down to the trunk mat - that tells you this is a carefully maintained total package. Studebaker's aircraft influences were bringing to show on the instrument panel design. The full gauge package looks like cockpit instrumentation, including toggle switches along the lower edge of the dash and a bright horn ring that almost looks like an aircraft yoke. While you marvel at this unique vintage setup, there has been a nice upgrade to an AM/FM/CD stereo - that way you can still have modern tunes in this custom vintage ride. The 289 cubic-inch V8 was the top motor from Studebaker. And people who know these will marvel at the correct bold yellow valve covers radiating from within the dark black engine bay. But more than just attractive, this V8 has some nice driving upgrades like an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, MSD coil, and a stainless dual exhaust. The total package on the road feels peppy, and this Studebaker lives up to its grand touring name. This is further amplified by the cruising nature of the three-speed automatic transmission and power steering. The Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk is already a unique classic in any crowd, and so this custom is sure to gain plenty of extra attention. So at this affordable price, we know it's the most interesting and complete cruiser for the money. If you're looking to make a bold statement without spending a pile of cash, call today!
