1969 Survivor Gotham Drag Pack Shelby GT500

==> Updated with new photos and video

I have 100% positive feedback since 2001 with more than 2000 transactions.

I never thought I would sell my car, but life changes. It is time to let someone else enjoy it for a while.

This is a true numbers matching 1969 Shelby GT500 Drag Pack from Gotham Ford in NYC.

Note:

--> I've taken photos from different angles, different locations with different lighting, on different days to show I'm not hiding anything with lighting. If you are interested in this survivor car, you should really come see it in person to see how cool it really is.

If you are looking for a GT500 that has been over restored with unknown body and paint work hiding who knows what, this probably is not your car. This Snake has not been stripped of its originality or covered up to look perfect. You could certainly take a car like this and replace all of its original history, turn it into a glossy, over restored example, and it would be beautiful I'm sure, but doing so would erase what makes an honest, documented survivor special in the first place. This is the kind of Shelby that appeals to those who value originality, correct bones, real history, and character you cannot recreate. If you have done your homework on the Drag Pack 428 Super Cobra Jet option, understand the history of Gotham Ford and why Carroll Shelby liked and trusted its owner (Bill Kolb), then you already know this is not your everyday restored Gotham Drag Pack GT500 you see crossing the auction block.

Details:
The 428 Super Cobra Jet and C6 automatic drivetrain were both professionally restored just three months ago after a full 12 month project. It starts easily, runs very strong, and drives exactly like it should. No mechanical issues found. Oil pressure and temperatures stay rock solid whether it is a short cruise or a long drive. All gauges, lights, wipers, heater, etc. work.

Being a true survivor, the interior needed major attention when I bought it. The seats, carpet, and headliner were deteriorating into dust while driving down the highway. It would have showed well in the survivor barn at the McCacan Car Show with the tears in the seats and carpet, odors, and debris that were honestly a health issue, and it was not safe or enjoyable for my wife on date night. Since this car is meant to be enjoyed and driven, I replaced the deteriorated interior with correct, high quality parts. It now looks nice, factory correct and smells clean again. While the carpet was out, I installed Dynamat over solid floor pans that still retained original paint.

ORIGINAL PAINT - The paint appears to be about 95 percent factory original paint, with a few small touch ups done years ago by a previous owner. The touch ups are not obvious, and it takes a knowledgeable person to know where they are. Expect typical age related cracking (from its original lacquer paint) and a few chips. The photos show it honestly. This is a survivor and the paint is one of the most appealing aspects of this car and at local car shows, it gets far more attention than glossy newly restored cars that most people are afraid to drive.

The factory original front and back glass (still in the car) were removed and reinstalled during the headliner work. There is zero rust in either window channel, which is important. See photos.

The underside looks great. Floors and frame rails are solid. I keep the car parked on my lift, and you are welcome to come inspect it in person. Steering and suspension feel tight and confident on the highway. It feels safe and planted. The transmission shifts perfectly with very strong, clean shift points.

The original AM FM radio powers up but only plays static, so it will need service if originality matters to you.

Engine components such as the breather, heads, exhaust manifolds, carburetor, and distributor appear to be factory original and numbers correct. The factory original intake was swapped out in the 1970s and was not on the car when I purchased it. This was a common performance upgrade at the time and is honestly part of the car’s story.

The tires are in good shape, but I had planned to replace them with Goodyears to get closer to the OEM appearance.

This Shelby is not a garage ornament. It gets driven, maintained, and pampered. It sleeps indoors every night, but I run it weekly, get it fully up to temperature, burn off condensation, and keep everything healthy before putting it away.

The car comes with an Elite Marti Report, previous owner provenance, and documentation. It has a documented history from Gotham Ford in New York City, known to be one of Carroll Shelby’s specialty race car distributors, and this car has been featured in a Motorcraftmagazine article (See Photos for magazine screenshot).

The car is located about one hour north of Dallas, and you are welcome to do a full inspection on my lift. If you are coming from out of state, you are welcome to hire a professional inspector or mechanic to look at it.

--> This car has nothing to hide.

Survivor:
If you've ever owned a true survivor car, then you know that they can be "so original" that your wife refuses to go on date night because of how bad the interior is, or they probably will not make it 100 miles down the road without breaking down, overheating, not starting, fuel delivery problems, etc... This car is the best of all worlds. It is great for date night, a local car show, or a cruise night without worrying about mechanical issues. It's dependable and runs/drives/looks amazing.

With the exception of a few very limited, survivor worn parts that needed to be replaced for safety and usability, this is a true survivor Gotham Drag Pack Shelby with honest history, documentation, owner provenance, correct bones, and the kind of patina you cannot fake. If you are looking for a real Gotham Drag Pack GT500 that draws more attention at a local car show than the car next to it with a $40,000 paint job, this is it. If you want an ultra rare, low production Drag Pack Shelby that you can actually take your family out to dinner in without worrying about chipped paint or rock rash, or breaking down / not starting / overheating, etc... this is the car.

When I purchased it from the previous owner, it was running and driving with a 1968 427 side oiler from a 1968 Cougar. The car also came with its original numbers matching 428 Super Cobra Jet block, which had two broken pistons from period racing in the 1970s. I drove the car in its 427 side oiler configuration for about a year while completing a proper rebuild of the original matching 428 SCJ engine. The original engine and matching C6 Auto trans are now fully restored, installed, and running perfectly, with approximately 500 miles since the rebuild.

If you would like to see it on my lift and drive it in person, reach out and I will set it up.
