Vehicle Original VIN : 3075Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you today this 1984 Cobra replica. This sporty little machine is titled as a 1984 Homemade Cobra and produced by the Contemporary Classic Motor Car Company. This company was in business from 1980 through the mid to late 1990's and was known to be one of the better reproduction Cobras on the market. We do not know if this car was assembled by Contemporary Classic or if it was bought as a kit and assembled independently. It does wear a VIN plate that says "Contemporary Classic Motor Car Co. Mt. Vernon NY 10553 Serial #3075. We were told by the son of the single owner that it originally had a 427 under the hood but it's now powered by a Ford 390ci V8. The paint job is admittedly not a great one when viewed up close. There are runs, chips, and spider webbing present and it looks like it was painted quite some time ago. From 5 feet away though, it looks like a shiny red Cobra. Both the hood and trunk lid feature nice Cobra badges. The hood also sports a hood scoop. The windshield has bright chrome trim and is matched by a bright side mirror. Looking down the sides you'll see 427 Cobra badges and rectangular holes just above them on the fenders. These openings usually have vents that cover them, but none are present. Black side-pipes run down the sides and empty ahead of the rear tires with an awesome rumble. There are pins on the body that are likely for a tonneau cover, though none is present. Around back is another tubular steel bumper, a LeMans gas cap, and a trunk containing a car cover and the battery. This roadster has a great stance as it sits upon gray turbine wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial TA's. Under the hood is a Ford 390ci V8 topped with Cobra LeMans valve covers, a 4-barrel carburetor, and a chrome air cleaner. The radiator has an electric fan behind it as well as a propeller fan ahead of the engine. There is no power steering, but the car is so light that it's barely noticeable. The V-8 is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with a Hurst steel ball shifter. The independent rear suspension appears to be from an E-type Jaguar with 2 coil-overs per wheel and adjustable coil-overs on the front. Braking power comes from 4-wheel discs. Inside the cockpit you'll find the typical spartan Cobra interior dressed in black. Black carpet continues throughout the interior and is topped with red and black floor mats. The driver is treated to a very cool 3-spoke steering wheel with AC center cap. The black dash is in good condition and houses "Smith's" gauges for oil, water temp., amps, fuel, speedo, and tach. All of the gauges appear to work with the exception of 1 of the 2 oil gauges. The headlights, tail lights, and brake lights all work but the turn signals only seem to work if the driving lights are off. Please note that there is no heat, no radio, and the wipers are inop. (potentially one of the two switches on the dash). These things are of little consequence to this roadster though, as it is obviously a "fair-weather only" car. It is small, tricky to get into, and lacking in creature comforts – but it is an incredibly fun driving experience! It's as quick as a scared rabbit, light-weight and responsive, and it has an awesome growl from the side-pipes – it's impossible not to smile while you're driving it! It is a rarity to find any Cobra under $30K, and if you can live with a sub-par paint job, this car offers all the fun of any other at a fraction of the cost!
