This is the ideal 1965 Shelby Cobra Backdraft for both show and go. After all, who doesn't love a shimmering version of a timelessly attractive color combo? But beneath the surface lies a fully independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, a five-speed stick, and a performance-built Roush 342 V8.
Backdraft Racing is known for making sleek cars with serious power. It's seen quite well on this Sterling Gray roadster. There's a deep gloss and metallic glow that tells of a modern application and a professional hand applying it. The silver racing stripes complement the metallic gray, and they are painted on for lasting quality. So this strong full silver style package should earn this Cobra a nickname like "Quicksilver." Another reason for such a good presentation is this 2008 build is a low-mileage one-family owned car (father and son). There are plenty of speedy deals you expect on a proper Cobra like big flared fenders, a hood scoop, fender vents, and a sleek open roadster style. Plus, some of the best gleaming brightwork are also some of the best race-ready components. This includes the growling side pipes, racing jack stub bumpers, and the roll hoop. And the Halibrand-style wheels have classic knock-off hubs, but they are done in a modern 17-inch size that lets you fit the best on modern performance tires.
The gray interior is tastefully distinct against the exterior color theme. In fact, since we see so many black Cobra interiors, the multiple shades of gray on the upholstery, carpeting, dash, and seatbelts make this quite unique. It's so comprehensive that even the racing tonneau cockpit cover is done in gray! But while this is distinct it also doesn't skip out on the correct Shelby attitude. Low-back bucket seats, racing harnesses, a grippy steering wheel, and a well-placed shifter properly engage you. And the dash is dominated by a full set of crisp VDO readouts.
The engine bay looks attractive with an overall tidy look, clean fundamentals, and plenty of polished components. But what really gives it its race-ready look are the Roush callouts on the valve covers and air grabber. This 342 cubic-inch V8 is done by the power master at Roush. This was rebuilt in 2016 and includes go-fast goodies like aluminum heads, an Edelbrock aluminum intake, and a Holley four-barrel carburetor. Plus, headers feed into those growling side pipes. It's quite a powerhouse, and we have a dyno sheet showing that this is making 465 hp! There are also the right supporting components, like an aluminum radiator with electric fan, MSD ignition, and a Die Hard platinum battery in the trunk for weight distribution. You are in complete control of the V8's symphony thanks to the T5 five-speed manual transmission. On the road or racetrack, you'll feel the added confidence the fully independent suspension gives you. And the four-wheel power disc brakes and wide ZR-rated sport tires are part of this superior handling package, too.
