The Shelby Cobra will forever have its place in history as being arguably the most famous example of a light nimble European chassis paired with a brash powerful American V8. The Cobra to rule them all was the 427 s/c, a total of 53 were built for homologation purposes to compete in the World Sports Car Championship. With these cars trading for north of $2 million dollars they’ve become a somewhat unattainable dream car.
Available for purchase now is a 1 of 40 Gentry Motor Works Cobra 427 S/C. John Gentry, the president of Gentry Motor Works began production of these cars in 1995 by first disassembling an original 427 S/C in order to create a blueprint in which the new car will be based upon. During production Gentry made a handful of tweaks to increase both streetablity and performance, such as a slight increase in the thickness of the tubing used to construct the MKIII chassis for added rigidity, upgrading the braking system with wilwood disc brakes at all 4 corners, a large capacity radiator, a large capacity oil cooler, and additional insulation for the drivers compartment. Gentry’s goal was to create a slightly more liveable version of Shelby’s AC Cobra without sacrificing the raw experience of the big block roadster it was based upon. The pre-1966 428 big block that is under the bonnet makes for an excellent power plant being far much more drivable than the original S/C's and allows it to run on 91 octane fuel. One of the rarest parts of the is the wheels which are Halibrand pin-drive knock-off wheels that were found on the original 427 S/C.
Currently reading just under 450 miles with a clean florida title it is in amazing condition. The exterior of the car is in great condition with very few imperfections, none of the wheels exhibit any curb rash, and the paint is in phenomenal shape. Regarding the interior it is in excellent condition as well, only showing a small amount of wear on the driver seat. Below the AC pedals the driver's footwell carpet is in great shape along with the rest. Included with the car is the original tonneau cover for the drivers compartment as well as some documentation. Mechanically the car is very sound and gives no problems, all aspects of the drivetrain are in near new condition with the engine roaring as it should, and the transmission shifting through each gear as intended.
As a whole the Gentry 427 S/C does not disappoint as it provides an experience nearly identical to an original 427 S/C as far as looks, driving and rawness goes.
