The ERA Cobra.
ERA is considered among the best quality reproductions of the Shelby Cobra. These cars are manufactured and assembled to be finished cars at the factory. Not build kits or parts to assemble. They were one of the pioneers of this market and have steadily improved the quality and design as technology has improved. The cars are manufactured with much higher standards. Finished with the precision that meets today's sports car enthusiast's expectation. The body and frame are fused together using the same technology that is used mating the newer Corvette frame to it's body. This technique, which uses acomposite epoxy to attach the body to the chassisinstead of using old fashioned nuts an bolts, totally changes the feel of the car on the road. If you have driven other brand name Cobra replicas, you will most likely experience a noticeable improvement. The enhanced body rigidity and driving precision is impressive. What was missing is the play and body flex that almost all kit cars suffer from. The fit and finish of even some of the pricier Cobra kit cars have a clunky feel with lots of vibration and a general sense of a sub-standard build out. There are other game changing differences on the ERA Cobra including improved power train, frame design, suspension, leather interior and on this particular car, a heavy duty racing rear axle and an outboard rear braking system upgrade. The Roush engine chosen for this is one of the more expensive and most powerful offered. Despite all these improvements, stomping on the gas still requires advanced driving skills. After all, it's still a reproduction of a featherweightcar with a road eating, very tightly wound racing motor. It's what we love the most about it!
NOTyour average Cobra Replica
This is a 1 owner car that was special ordered in 2004 and finally finished and delivered in 2007. The car was fitted with all upgrades possible from ERA at over $50k. After which an additional $27Kwas spent making one of the best Cobras offered even better. Adding upgrades mentioned above plus lot's of subtle bolt on upgrades to the engine, cooling, and exhaust system. Ever burn your leg on a side exhaust pipe? OUCH! The owner of this car has also experienced this. In fact his goal was to build an intense muscle car that was so finished nice that his wife would enjoy spending time in it with him. With this in mind, he ordered the car without one of the optional exhaust configurations so he could have a system custom made. He focused on performance and sound like the rest of us but, also on the position of the exhaust systems. Notice it was designed to allow the passengers to step in and out of the car without having to focus on avoiding the red hot exhaust system. Keeping the exhaust mounted on the side preserved the required authentic styling. Your wife's leg skin must be preserved at any length!
The owner chose theRoush small block because of it's lighter weight and higher horsepower. This little engine packs more power and torque than most Cobras equipped with big block engines. Also big blocks throw heat and that burn up foot wells. On a hot day the floors heat up like furnaces that are likely to melt your shoe sole to the gas pedal. Obviously the owner who ordered the car took a special interest in the car, doing the research and making decisions that only an experienced Shelby Cobra owner know to make. All the downsides have been removed leaving the best possible version of a Cobra reproduction. Some one will soon appreciate owning this car that was so carefully planned with the primary motive; to build the most enjoyable Cobra than his previously owned Cobras. Because his mission was quality instead of value, this may be one of the best values offered in the pre-owned Cobra replica marketplace.
