Yes, this 1966 Shelby Cobra replica is for the guy who wants attention and a lot of it. Yes, we noticed the eyeball-searing green paint and the nasty satin black details. Yes, everybody will dig the cackling engine note. And if you're smart, you'll be the fellow who uses this nasty roadster to its full potential and treat the bright paint job as a warning to others. It's a Lonestar Cobra, which means it's a good choice if you're taller than about five-feet-nine, with a few extra inches of legroom tucked in where nobody will notice. Heck, on this car, they'll be so agog at the wicked paint that they won't care if it's real or not! It was built in 2011, and while it's been driven, this was obviously a car built to attract eyeballs, so that's still what it does best. The bright paint glows like it's radioactive and the satin black stripes are a combination of paint and decals which emulate the original Cobra look, right down to the gumballs on the side. Things that were chrome on the original are also black, giving the car a purposeful look, particularly when you notice the headlight rings are satin black and frame a set of snake eye lenses (removable) on the headlights. Fit and finish are rather good and yes, the teeth in the grille opening are also easily removed. The interior is quite a bit more mature, with beautiful heated leather bucket seats that feature contrasting white stitching and 5-point harnesses to keep you in place. Upholstered door panels with map pockets, a usable center console with arm rest, and full carpets mean this nasty snake is comfortable enough to use as a real car, not just some kind of toy. Auto Meter supplied all the gauges and most of the switch gear is comprised of those cool flip-up aviation-style toggle switches that always seem to imply something critical is about to happen. No radio, of course, but you do get that fat leather-wrapped steering wheel and a proper 5-speed gearbox to your right, as well as a fire extinguisher, just in case. The trunk is neatly finished and someone with a sense of humor has added some green LED lighting, suggesting that something sinister is going on back there.Don't worry, this Cobra has the horsepower to back up its outrageous look. It takes the form of a built 351 Windsor V8 dressed in Shelby Cobra valve covers and an oval air cleaner atop the big Holley 4-barrel carburetor. It's not exotic, but boy does it get the job done! Big power is available anywhere on the tach and the hit of torque this nasty small block delivers will quickly become addictive. There's a big aluminum radiator up front and an electric fan to keep the air moving through it, so the Cobra keeps an even temperature all the time and you know those satin black side pipes sound spectacular. I promise nobody will know it's not a big block by the way it sounds. The Tremec 5-speed slices through the gears like a razor and there's a bulletproof Ford 9-inch rear hanging out back. The front suspension is A-arms and coil-overs while the rear is an abbreviated 4-link, and there's a cross-drilled disc brake at each corner. Wheels look like Ford Racing Cobra pieces with 275/40/17 front and 315/35/17 rear Kumho stickies.Outrageous looks mean that you'd better be able to back it up, and this Cobra delivers in a very big way on every front. If you like the look, we promise you'll love the way it runs. Call today!
