1989 Shelby CSX -- Additional Info:
1989 Dodge Shelby CSX, 8400 actual original miles! Production was limited to 500 vehicles and with the completion of these cars; Carroll Shelby's direct involvement with Dodge was complete. Here is an incredibly rare opportunity to own a ultra low-mileage, one-owner 1989 Shelby CSX-VNT. The CSX (Carrol Shelby Experimental) was a limited-production, high-performance sports car based on the turbocharged Dodge Shadow and was offered by Shelby Automobiles from 1987 to 1989. There were only 500 1989 CSX’s produced and this one's engine is badged #1554. All certification and original window sticker available. Under the hood, she houses a 2.2L Turbo IV Inline 4-Cylinder engine that produces 175hp and 205 ft-lb of torque. She’s controlled by a Getrag A555 5-speed manual transmission and power is provided to the rear wheels. 1989 was the final production year of Shelby Dodge and the CSX (called the CSX-VNT) but introduced two new technological advances: the Garrett variable-nozzle turbo and Shelby-designed composite wheels, known as “Fiberides,” which were lighter than contemporary wheels. The variable geometry turbo vanes are computer controlled and need no wastegate. Instead, the flow of exhaust gasses spools up instantly and provides strong power. Turbo lag is eliminated, with full boost (15 psi) available at 2100 rpm. The intense powerband, coupled with the car's low weight makes the CSX-VNT very fast and fun on the street. Car and Driver magazine called it "a technological showcase" and were impressed with the engine's flexibility and top-gear acceleration (tested it up to 156 mph). A ground effects package produced by Kaminari Aerodynamics gives the CSX-VNT a ground hugging appearance. The suspension was also modified, as the alignment specs are radically different from the other Shelby Dodges. Shelby chose Exotic Red, a mix of bright red and maroon, with gold wheels and trim to finish this car. The MSRP price was $15,995 when she was first released. The 1989 Shelby CSX-VNT proved to be a true domestic exotic, showcasing technology not seen until 2006 when Porsche utilized variable vane turbos for their new 997. This Shelby is a piece of history and it’s nearly impossible to find another one out there with only 8,400 original miles. She’s been cared for like a show car and is a great investment at the price offered here. She still performs impressively as the description above. Call or e-mail for more information.
