1994 Saab 900 Additional Info:

I’ve owned this car since 2017. It has been serviced by Roland at Swedish Underground in Brooklyn – the go-to service for Saabs in New York. Check out his Yelp reviews. He has said the car is in good condition for it’s age and I have had few issues. Selling slightly above price I paid here on eBay 4 years ago.
I get stopped DAILY about this car. I have to sell for financial reasons but it breaks my heart. I bought it for summer weekend fun but was surprised to realize I use it year round and regularly. It’s built like a tank. A few years ago we had that Snowmagedon in New York – and this Saab got me home through 6 hours of snow and gridlock, dodging stalled out BMWs and SUVs.
I have had to make no major fixes.
– Never had an issue with roof. Always been smooth.
– Never had overheating issue of any kind.
– Guy stopped me on the street (and Roland confirmed) that this is the last make of the series. Was made in a separate factorybefore Saab ended the 900s so he urged me to hold onto it if I can because it’s unique within the series.
The ongoing issues I’ve had were all electrical related. Took a while to figure out that the battery is not recharging and that led to all kinds of side-effects. But that was resolved last year and since then it’s been fine. Before listing I took for a checkup and made some fixes:
- replaced motor belts- new radiator
Since I’ve owned it the car has received:
- new cooling hose- new battery cables- power steering rack- power steering hoses- break pads & arm bushing- new starter
Recently drove to Rhode Island and back, no issues. Then left it standing for 2 weeks: fired back up right away.
After purchase my priority was to get AC working and it is, which means in the summer I can have the top down and AC on, so it’s cool in the sun. Pretty great. AC has to be recharged beginning of each season.
Got the wiring for the radio to run to back and speakers working. From here wold be easy to upgrade system if you wanted. Have original radio which worked.
If you look at photos you’ll notice that the center column is missing. I took this out myself because it opens up the legroom and visually also is much cleaner. The center column had ash tray and a big empty storage space… so it didn’t really serve a purpose in my mind. Roland told me that the 900 non-convertible models actually didn’t have that center column… so an awesome customization would be to nab a knee dash (the lower, leather part of the dash) from a non-convertible model and put it in. Creates all this leg space. HOWEVER I obviously still have all the parts I took out so can be put back easy, just screws.

The car is 25 years old… and has a lot of the small common issues that these models have. Hard to name them all… but you mostly don’t notice any of them.
- cruise control not working (Roland says that’s a pretty standard problem)
- dashboard light not working. Entire board has to be replaced
The small fixable issues are as follows:
- currently left driver's window not working. 3 others work so I think it’s a button replacement
- right side door has a bit of rusting at bottom. Roland said it won’t be effected by rain (so won’t get worse)
- I’d replace the carpeting (although somebody said a good detail job would be enough). They sell custom molds that anybody with a wrench can install.
- some light body work if you want it to look mint
- the trunk could use a carpet replacement
I’m not a mechanic or car guy so don’t know much about what’s under the hood… but the fixes have been for standard wear-and-tear and Roland has told me it’s in good shape for it’s age.
I can’t give you too much more detail but happy to answer try to answer questions. But the car is priced fairly for its age and condition. I have spent a few hundred on fixes each year but have been pleasantly surprised by the lack of upkeep.
