1966 Saab Model 96 special / sport Additional Info:
Hello ebayers.I had grand expectations of restoring this Saab but just don't have the funds to really do it right. I did start the process and the engine is out of the car and apart. All bolts are labeled in plastic bags and I have taken pictures of nearly every part of the engine compartment if you need help knowing where everything goes then the pics will help. Block is cleaned and rough bored to 71mm. Ready to buy pistons and finish honing the cylinders. Tom Donney is ready to rebuild the crank for you and you've got most of the engine ready to put back together. This car does not have a Monte Carlo crank as it has the larger counter weights on it. Ya there isn't really much to a 2 stroke motor. Everything came apart without breaking any bolts or stripping nuts. I have bought a slave cylinder rebuilt kit for the clutch and a silicone hose set for the engine ($150) that will go with the project.
The car has double puck lockheed disc brakes up front and drum in the back. 4 lug nut wheels.
The body has no cancer rust at all. There is some surface rust (battery area, brake line recesses inside car) but nothing major. The biggest body work to do is the drivers side door and front fender area. Take a look at pictures. I have 2 donor doors which go with the sale. The front fender you will need to fix or source out. Also with the sale is an extra windshield, back window, and side rear windows. I do believe the doors also have glass in them. the rear hatch has a small dent in it and the handle has a crack in it. All doors work windows roll. rockers and floors are completely solid. The only parts missing that I can tell are two of the four stainless steel body moldings which mount above the wheel wells.
I do not have any keys for the car. Someone said that would be a semi-big job just to get the keys made. I don't know about that but just wanted you to know so you can bid accordingly.
I do have a pink slip (title) but it is not in my name as it has not been registered in forever and is out of California DMV records. I figured I would register it after I restored it. I will be happy to assist with registration, paperwork wise if needed) when the time comes. I would be happy to assist, within reason, with shipping logistics after funds clear.
The car has been stored in a garage the last three or four years, but I lost that space. Thought what a great excuse to get going on a summer project. I am not really wanting to sell the car as I have owned a 1972 saab and loved it. I am a two stroke guy at heart so I thought this would really be a perfect car for me. I love weird stuff and don't really worry about going 0-60 in any given time.
I will not end auction early so please don't ask. I will probably list it locally if it does not sell on ebay. You are welcome to bid or wait, but I am not giving the car away. I am not desperate to sell and can look into other storage options for a rebuild at a later date.
I really tried to describe everything about the car and would be happy to answer any questions you have. I have great ebay feedback you can bid with confidence that what I have said is true, and I would like the car to go to someone who would really enjoy it. If you live around Los Angeles Ca. you are welcome to come take a look.Happy bidding.John
