1922 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Piccadilly Roadster by Brewster Additional Info:

Absolutely amazing example of a real 1922 Rolls Royce SILVER GHOST, officially known as the 40/50HP.The Facts:Often referred to as a "Springfield Ghost", this car was built in the Springfield, MA factory, which was set up by Rolls Royce in 1921 to accommodate the massive demand for Rolls Royce cars from the USA. Most notably, most of the Springfield cars would be equipped with left-hand drive steering wheels to better suit the US market, like this car. This example was fitted with the "Picadilly Roadster" body style, built by the coach builder Brewster & Coof NY. As you may know, Rolls Royce would deliver a running chassis with engine and gearbox, and customers would order the body of their choice, built by one of the popular coach builders of the time, such as Brewster, Barker, Pickwick, Mulliner, Hooper, and so on. It is also possible to move a body to another Silver Ghost, for example, as these cars are effectively identified by their Chassis. These Silver Ghosts have the 7.4L inline 6 cylinder engine. They are basically built like a tank, and were in fact used as the basis for tanks (armored car / troop carrier) in WW1 and WW2 (e.g. Lawrence of Arabia). Just touching the fenders shows how well built these are. The engine is built up from 2 blocks of 3 cylinders with water galleries on top. They have dual magnetos and dual spark plugs, ensuring extreme reliability, if maintained properly. Lubricating the chassis is done easily from an oil access point in the engine compartment. The 40-50HP Silver Ghost was the best car in the world in period, and just spending an hour looking at all the details on this car clearly shows why.The Good:Even at over 100 years old, this Silver Ghost appears to be complete. It is clear that the previous owner(s) spent good money to get this car ready for an active life: The standard 3-speed gearbox was upgraded to a 4-speed box, likely from a RHD / UK Silver Ghost. A steering damper was added for greatly improved driving comfort on road trips. The electrical system was upgraded to 12V, and there's a 12V power socket hidden under the dashboard. This car is also equipped with the extremely rare air filter. The lenses for the headlights, tail lights and spot lights all seem to be original and correct for this car. The Bausch & Lomb lenses on the headlights are a sight to behold. The convertible top and interior are in good shape, and have likely been redone in the last 5-10 years. The tires are Firestone white-walls and hold air as they should, and have plenty of thread. The Picadilly Roadster body by Brewster is one of the most desirable body styles, offering a sleek sporty style, straight out of "The Great Gatsby". The Brewster plaque is present on the driver's side, and the black paint is in great condition. The white paint does show some patina and cracks, consistent with age and use.The leather protective covers for the suspension are all in place and appear to be in great condition. The car comes with a pair of keys. There is a foldable luggage rack in the back. The gearbox and clutch seem to hold up well, and prevent the car from moving when pushed. The odometer indicates 27,640 miles. Although total mileage is unknown, it is assumed the number reflects the actual mileage. In running form, and with some cosmetic touch-ups, this is easily a $300,000-$500,000 car in today's market. The Bad:Like most Silver Ghosts, at some point in their life they've been in serious need for a loving owner to resurrect them from their demise, be it rotting away in a field, disassembled in a barn, or in this case, a water issue. We don't have additional information on the actual damage or circumstances of the incident, but the title states it is a prior water / flood loss, and once repaired, it will need to be recertified through your state or country's "rebuilt salvage vehicle" process to get it registered again for road use.The car itself does appear to be in good physical condition for its age. There are some defects on the body, but everything appears to be straight. The doors open and close normally, but could use some adjustment. One of the brackets for the rumble seat (the fold-down seat in the back) has come loose, but is included with the car.The real issue: The engine does not turn over. It has not run in about 4 years. This is likely the biggest expense to account for in this project. Parts for these cars are still being made and refurbished by various shops around the world. Or alternatively, this car could serve as a parts donor, where the body could be sold off to a wanting amateur, and various mechanical parts can be reused and refurbished to keep other Silver Ghosts on the road. The fix could be as simple as lubricating the engine to get it un-stuck, and then doing full maintenance, or it could require a full teardown and refurbishment / replacement of many parts, or anything in between. There is evidence of a prior field repair to the inlet manifold, indicating this was a car used for touring. This manifold can easily be repaired by a skilled craftsman, or replaced, as desired. Some of the wiring in the battery box needs to be replaced. The brightwork on the car is tired and flaking in some areas. Conclusion:We've tried to be as detailed and clear as possible based on the facts pertaining to this vehicle as they are known to us at the time of this listing. This particular vehicle needs work to get it running again, and the "Buy-It-Now" price reflects this, as that price is about half what the car would be worth once revived. We are not liable for errors or omissions in this listing. You are welcome to come and inspect the car during the listing by making an appointment. This description as well as the photos provided serve as a tool for you to ascertain the state of the car. Should you require specific photographs, please reach out and we'll do our best to provide them for you. Within reason, we will accommodate a live video walk-around using WhatsApp or FaceTime. Due to the car being a non-runner, inspections must be done on-site. Please note, we are not a mechanic shop.Based on what we could see when the car was brought in, this car can probably get back on the road by opening up the engine and getting it serviced properly. Some wiring needs attention, and the chassis needs to be lubricated properly. Likely, some parts in the engine may need refurbishment or replacement. We would not restore the minor defects in the body for what is essentially a "driver's car".The logistics:You as a buyer are responsible for pickup from our location in Costa Mesa, CA 92627 (United States).
