1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II Additional Info:
This is a beautiful 1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II standard saloon that has accumulated 61,800 miles from new and benefitted from an older restoration. This factory LHD Rolls was ordered new with all the right options, including air conditioning. Mechanically, this very low mileage Rolls is very strong, and the color combination is as elegant as it is stunning. It does have some rust in the common areas, which makes this Silver Cloud more affordable while delivering the same amount of enjoyment. LSPA208 was ordered from the factory by Rolls-Royce of Canada on August 25th, 1959, as a special order for Mr. George H Cloakey, Jr. of Calgary, Canada. Mr. Cloakey was the President of Britalta Oils and Chairman of the Calgary General Hospital. This Rolls was ordered with a very long list of optional items including power steering, factory air conditioning, tinted Sundym glass, white wall tires, power windows, a special horn and a larger brake pedal. It was ordered in Shell Gray (Paint Code M901-2582) with a single Deep Red pinstripe and Red Leather (Trim Code VM3086) with maroon carpeting (Trim Code 105). By 1985, the Rolls had been acquired by PT Erling-Tyrell of Tacoma, WA. The paint had by then received its present color scheme of Shell Gray over Claret metallic. By 1989, Mr. Charles McKay of Tacoma, WA had acquired the Rolls and enjoyed it until at least 1992. By then, its beautiful restoration had been completed and the total mileage was recorded as 58,000 from new. The livery is spectacular in its Shell Gray over Claret Metallic and is complimented by beautifully finished chrome and stainless steel. The paint has gorgeous shine and luster with very few touched up areas in high use areas. There is some bubbling in the rear fender dog legs and behind the rear wheels. These are only noticeable upon very close inspection. The wheel covers are beautifully polished and have the Claret trim ring and have a set of five new wide white walled tires. The chrome is in overall very nice condition with no pitting or rust, but the bumper overriders have small dings. Overall, this Silver Cloud makes a very impressive statement and is simply stunning in person. The interior is in beautiful condition with all the correct materials having been used in its restoration. The Red Leather is soft and supple and in very nice condition. The Maroon carpeting is also in very nice condition and the Maroon mouton sheepskin overlays are as new and are in the front and rear passenger areas. The wood was beautifully refinished and in very nice condition today. The gorgeous burl walnut is in excellent condition with terrific gloss. Most of the wood appears freshly refinished. The rear passenger compartment has the picnic tables and side vanities one expects from a Silver Cloud. All of the gauges work well with the exception of the clock. The radio has been upgraded to a later Blaupunkt AM/FM Cassette unit. Overall, the interior is in fantastic condition. The engine compartment has been recently detailed and looks very nice. The venerable 6.23-liter V8 proved to be the longest produced V8 in automobile history. It has proven to be very robust, powerful and smooth. The Rolls has been fully serviced including tune up, hoses and fluid changes, replacement of the brake hoses, wheel cylinders and fluid, air conditioning recharge and service and a new set of wide white walled tires. The Rolls starts easily warm or cold and is comfortable to drive even with the air conditioning on and in our 100 degrees plus F temperatures. Even in 100-degree temperatures, the oil pressure and operating temperatures were excellent, which one would expect from a well maintained 61,000-mile Silver Cloud. The original factory rear mounted air conditioning has been converted to 134a refrigerant and worked very well. LSPA208 comes complete with several of the large tools, the spare with a new tire and a new battery. The Rolls comes complete with the factory build sheets, historical documents, an Owners Handbook and a full sales brochure for the Silver Cloud II.
