Up for sale is a Backdraft Racing Roadster – a hand-built recreation of the legendary 1965 Shelby Cobra 427. Backdraft Racing roadsters are among the best-regarded Cobra replicas available, built on a purpose-designed tube chassis with a fiberglass body and finished with the proper period style inside and out. This is NOT an original Shelby Cobra; it is a Backdraft component car as identified on the manufacturer’s build plate.
Power comes from a carbureted Ford small-block V8 dressed with Ford Racing valve covers and a classic Cobra finned air cleaner, backed by a 5-speed manual transmission. The car wears classic-style wheels with three-ear knock-off spinners on raised-white-letter tires, has goodyeard stickers on tires, side-exit exhaust with perforated heat shields, roll bar hoop, and a competition-style interior with black leather buckets, 4-point harnesses, an MPI suede steering wheel, and a full set of Auto Meter gauges.
This car has been damaged. It sustained front-end collision damage – the right front fender and nose have cracked and torn fiberglass – along with frame damage. The frame was pulled slightly to improve the door gap alignment. There is additional fiberglass damage at the passenger door latch area and at the lower left rear of the body. It is being sold as a project / repair or parts candidate. Please study the photos, which are part of the description.
