In the early 1960's, Henry Ford aimed to increase Ford's racing reputation and compete with Ferrari at the prestigious24 Hours of Le Mans, a race that Ferrari had dominated for years. After failed negotiations between the two companies, Ford decided to develop its own high-performance race car and they created a team with the most talented people they could, including legends like Carrol Shelby and Ken Miles. After many different prototypes and adjustments, the Ford GT40 was born, the 40 represents the height of the vehicle which is 40 inches, this was the minimum allowed at the time and greatly improved the aerodynamics of the vehicle. The Ford GT40 was by far the greatest showcase of advanced automobileengineeringthe world had ever seen. In 1966, the GT40 achieved a historic 1-2-3 victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, ending Ferrari's dominance and marking the first of four consecutive wins at Le Mans, just imagine the feeling having all three Ford GT40's on the podium, gold, silver and bronze all for the Ford team ! The GT40 was far ahead of its time and will forever remain an icon in automotive history. The GT40 Kit Car for sale here is pretty accurate in regards to size, even the height being an exact 40 inches. Features very nice vintage details, comes in Gold Metallic with black interior, Ford decals and black racing stripes, vintage Ford staggered wheels and Pirelli Cinturato radial tires made in Italy, air cooled VW rear engine and manual transmission, dual carburetor setup, cool air vents and cool dual exhaust, little see through engine compartment window, transparent distributor cap - at night time you can see the firing order sparks.... Now, regarding overall condition, this Kit Car was built long time ago, still nice but not new or perfect, metallic gold is nice and shiny but minor flaws are present, touchups, minor scratches....etc.... Car runs and drives, brakes are in good working order, when we got this replica we couldn't put it in gear because the clutch needed an adjustment, our mechanic did that but he also mentioned that the car will need a new clutch in the near feature, he also replaced the electric fuel pump. Again, runs and drives but I would't consider driving it long distances, I would consider it a weekend toy, it's just a Kit Car, and not the half a million dollar GT40 Carbon Edition, if you're dreaming about a million dollar GT40 recreation then please don't bid on this one, this is not the case in here ! Also, please don't ask if you can drive this car from Phoenix to Boston, I will say No.... or Yes, but only if you feel adventuresome !
