Survivor LaDawri Del Mar on a Triumph TR3 donor Runs well VIDEO

Thanks for stopping by to take a look at one very cool 1957 La Dawri Del Mar. Initially developed in British Columbia, Canada and then built here in Long Beach and Los Alamitos, California, in the middle of the So Cal hot rod scene. La Dawri produced a number of high quality bodies.

We have recently purchased several cars from an estate sale including 5 La Dawris. These cars were stored for many years and are in remarkable condition for their age. Let’s check this one out!

Rarity

Custom bodies were all the rage in the late 50’s and 60’s. La Dawri became one of the largest manufacturers, offering bodies for a wide variety of donor chassis. This Del Mar is the smaller body, intended for a 90 inch wheelbase. It is mated to a 1957 Triumph TR3 chassis and drivetrain. The TR-3 and the MGA were perfect for these smaller bodies.

• The VIN places the original TR3 as a 1957 model.

• The Del Mar body was offered in 1957.

• The odometer shows just 3439 miles.

• The build quality is exceptionally good, as in, not homebuilt.

Given the above, it appears to us that this could be a factory built La Dawri Del Mar, one likely used as a demonstrator.

Exterior.

Solid gelcoat over hand laid fiberglass. The original finish polishes out nicely but there are cracks, blemishes and touch ups on this 66 year old survivor. See the photos or better yet, come visit.

Engine

• 1991cc 4 cylinder

• Fresh cylinder head job

• New water pump, hoses and belt

• 2 rebuilt SU carburetors

• New Hi Torque starter

• New battery

• New gasket kit with spares

• The radiator has been serviced and an electric fan has been added.

Genuine wire wheels with tubes

The windshield is good. Replacements are easily attainable. A 1957 Chevrolet pickup windshield mounted upside down is spec’d for this car.

Documentation

The California title is lost. Assume you will have to do additional DMV paperwork if you are going to register it here in CA. The fees have been paid. A Bill of Sale will be provided.

Needs: Complete minor electrical, finish title work if wanted

The details contained in this listing are based on our review of the vehicle and any errors or omissions are unintentional. Please keep in mind that this is a 65 year old used car that has been off the road for many years. It will need periodic attention just as any classic does. It is not a new car and will not be fresh and perfect like that new soul sucking Camry your Aunt Betty drives. If that’s what you are after, this is not your era, nor your car so please move on to something boring.
