1963 Renault Caravelle Additional Info:
1963 Renault Caravelle. The Renault Caravelle was introduced @ the 1958 Paris Motor Show. The Renault Caravelle (known outside of the United States as the Renault Floride). Convertible with both soft top and removable hard top in pristine condition. The car is rear-engined and used the engine and floorpan of the Renault Dauphine. The four-cylinder engine displaced 845 cc and produced 40 horsepower. In 1962, the engine was upgraded to a larger, 956cc unit from the recently launched Renault 8. From 1962 onwards, the Caravelle name was dropped for the Floride. A nimble, sporty, fun to drive in and out of traffic, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive small family car produced by the French manufacturer Renault in the 1960s and early 1970s. Re-Jane white paint in very good condition sprayed over factory sheet metal. Laser straight lines and gaps. A sharp slopped down grill-less front and front bumper that drops down lower underneath large headlights … she almost appears to be grinning, with a smirk. A very nice design element is the single piece of trim that goes down the entire side of the car from the front of the fender to the rear of the quarter panel, separating the upper from lower. A fast back like styled, almost bubble top large, long sloped rear window. Tight oval elliptical taillights split horizontally in the middle create some elegance. The hood in the rear has long vents that would have provided plenty of cool air sliding down the very aerodynamic rear window. Tall reverse cove concave shapes behind at the rear of the doors. Steel wheels with circular holes an moon style hub caps. Undercarriage is very clean. The interior included thick cushioned brown Bucket front seats. Steel dash w vinyl dash pad. Brown door panels. Plush deep weave black carpeting. Floor shift manual transmission. New innovation for the car was four-wheel disc brakes, a first for a saloon car of this size. The clutch in the system was replaced by a powder ferromagnetic coupler, developed from a Smiths design. The transmission itself was a three-speed mechanical unit similar to that of the Dauphine, but from the beginning with synchromesh on all gears in this version. Steel wheels with round holes painted white to match the car with baby moon style hubcaps. This vehicle is either classic, antique, exotic, super rare, or all of the above. This vehicle is on consignment from a very large collection of vehicles. They are being sold as museum quality cars which means they may not run or drive and may not have run or driven in numerous years. The vehicles are of a condition where they would be on display in a museum. As museum pieces we were required to disconnect or remove batteries and drain fuel tanks. Once again, these vehicles have not been driven, or even started in quite some time. While we do our best to provide the highest quality muscle cars with an honest and reliable description and realize the importance of transparency when selling vehicles. That being said, we have not built, modified, changed or personally owned this vehicle. Whether this vehicle is consigned or owned by Past & Present Motor Cars we do not know the vehicles complete history since new.
