Once in a very great while, a special car comes along, one that has everything (desirable make, the right year, model, wonderful condition and most of all, provable history). There are many seemingly wonderful cars offered in the marketplace that doesn't stand up to close scrutiny.
Many of these cars have been assembled from parts and pieces and offered as restored whole vehicles. The numbers all match, but most everything else is from another car or has been reproduced. The people that are involved in this practice are very talented with much expertise, making it very hard to recognize and there is nothing legally wrong, as long as the car is presented correctly.
The popular TV show Graveyard Cars (GYC) is an example of this practice. GYC does an unbelievable great and complete restoration that anyone would be proud to own. Examples of what they start with is what we refer to above. Unfortunately, every classic car offered as restored has not gone through a process as complete as GYC offers.
In our 40 years of experience in Porsche restoration, we have done many PPI’s (Pre-Purchase Inspections) to insure our clients are getting what they think they are purchasing. In too many cases, cars have been found to have been once totaled (and even scrapped) in the past. In the days before CarFax, computers and titles records are often missing or unavailable, thus unproven and subject to manipulation.
Wouldn’t you like to be sure that your special classic car was not assembled from parts in some leaky warehouse by less than qualified technicians? That’s exactly what we are offering.
The 1970 Porsche 911T that we offer for sale has had one previous owner, and we can prove it. Our car was never wrecked, and we can prove it. It had the engine and transmission rebuilt by Porsche at 69,000 miles and we can prove it. We have the service history in a 3 ring binder that is almost 3 inches thick and the original invoice. We can show the only damage the car’s body ever had (slight side swipe in the 1980’s) we have photos. Porsche specialist, restorer and consultant Greg Godbout personally sought out and met with the local service manager who clearly remembers owner and even the mechanic who serviced the car when new.
Our car has gone through a minor restoration process ($33k), fully documented and done by a company with a 40-year history of Porsche services. That’s what makes this car special!
