1986 Porsche 944 Additional Info:

Hello 944 enthusiast, Porsche lovers and possibly soon to be Porsche owners! My disclaimer is I will offer as much information about the car as possible so you can bid with absolute confidence. This is a 30 year old car, is has have previous owners. It is not perfect, but it is fun to drive. It was my almost daily driver for about three and a half years, I rode my motorcycle and this car to work. This car has only ever left me stranded once, and that was when the starter failed. I have taken the vehicle down for maintenance and so TLC but it was by choice not because the car made me due it.The catalytic convertor is a universal replacement and was installed with clamps and sealant not welded, just haven't gotten to it yet.I have tons of extra parts and things which can come in handy and an extraset of wheels which I was going to use for my track tires. I intended for this to be an SCCA race car when I bought it but it just became my daily driver. I get compliments about half the time I drive it, its kind of iconic and super fun. I love this car, but I am being stationed overseas and can only bring one vehicle with the family. This car, if you don't already know, like all Porsches and German vehicles be challenging to work on. However there is a youtube video, clarks garage and 944 forums everywhere. It have a new timing belt / water pump / balance belt, front engine seals job just accomplished. This is the run down on the vehicle by section. After that is my maintenancelog. I do all of my own maintenance.
Exterior: Paint -- She is a 20/20 car, which means going 20 miles and hour 20 feet away she looks great, but there are many blemishes in the car, see pictures and ask questions. The only body damage is behind the drivers rear wheel, previous owner must have swiped something, I pounded it out a little bit, but it never looked bad so I left it alone mostly. The front spoiler - has been impacted many times and repairs have been mad and are visible, it has color match paint on it, but it was don't with rattle can color match and clear -- not a professional job, but looks fine. Thereare scratches and chips on the sunroof. Some other minor dents and scratches around the car. Normal stuff for a daily driver -- for 30 years.
Interior: Seats have Porsche covers on them, the seats are pretty torn up underneath. It came with the covers, I never took them off. They look pretty good actually. Backseat is pretty flawless -- cause no human can really fit back there, I usually leave them flat. The carpet in the truck area has some tears on one side, the hatch sometimes stays open on its own with the hydraulic struts but not always, they need replacing but I just used my arms. The dashboard has cracks, carpet covers are 35 dollarshard shell covers are about 100,never bothered meenough to fix.Everything else is good, lots of new switches and dials. Has an Alpinetape deck....it works. Radio....works. Iuse my Bluetooth headset with my phone for music though.
Engine: See log, the engine is pretty new really and so are a lot of the subsystems. I suspected a headgasket leak a while back so I rebuilt the entire top end and had the head professionally serviced and checked, it never over heated on me -- important to note. Its an aluminium engine/head soover heating not good. Itruns smooth, one of the motor mounts was replaced by the previous owner. It idles well, oil pressure is good high on startand low when warmed up at idle, runs around the 4 mark during highway driving -- normal. Cooling system is good, cools well, the temp needle on these cardo move a lot, so do not be alarmed. Unlike cars of today whichstay still after the car is a operating temp, these move -- if they aren't moving, there is a problem. It burns clean, nooil, gas mileage is good, there is aMPG gauge, itworks sparingly and is really uselsss IMO.I redid all of the engine front seals there was a leak and it was time for the Timing Belt/Water pump change interval so the majority of the leaks disappeared with that, I haven't been leaving any spots on the ashphalt but there are a few drops still forming, it might be residual from the job though.
Transaxle: Shifts good, no issues, clutch pedal feels good. Seals are all good and fluid is pretty new, see log. Has the standardand from what I can tell original transmission, a lot if not all Porsche 944 have a whine coming from the transaxle, when I bought this car 3.5 years ago, I freaked out. But it has never been an issue. I was always planning on if it went out to replace it with a $600 used one from a Turbo model, they have better gear ratios and a oil cooler.
Tires: 3 years old, being conservative I'd say half way through their tread life but really there are in good condition.
Brakes: Stops good, no issues there, plenty of pad life left, rotors are not warped or anything.
Electronics: Passanger power windows are touchy, sometimes only works with driver side control, passenger side mirror does not motor, drivers does. The passanger side mirroris new, but itmoves freely in its casing, somebody messed with it when it was parkedat the airport for a week and cracked the mirror, I replaced that and I used a wdge to keep it in place, its on my to do list, nevergot there.
Sub-Systems/Accessories: One of the sunroof clips is broken, but you can use it just fine and remove it too for that awesome 80s look. I only have one set of keys, and the key does not work on the passenger side door -- needs to be rekeyed. It can be locked/unlocked from the inside. The rear hatch opens and closed just fine, and the automatic motor that opens it works just fine, but the motor does not open it when the button is press from the drivers console. It may have to do with the weak struts.

I have been as honest as I think I can be, its a good little car. I will accept paypal but the buyer (you) will have to addthe paypal fee to the top of the final bid price. This car has a reserve of $2000.Look at the part list and new stuff, that is a super fair reserve. I will ship it (buyer, you will pay for this) Car may be driven a little during the sale but no cross country road trips. It is listed locallyso I reserve the right the end the auctionif it does indeed sell.
