Here is an extremely rare opportunity to own a genuine 944 "Versuchswagen," Chassis 92A0410010, a piece of Porsche history. This prototype is one of just ten test/development cars that paved the way for the Porsche 944 — ordered as base 924s to disguise their true purpose. As the earliest test cars they were registered as 924’s so they could hit the road immediately.

Jochen Freund, Senior Project Manager of Porsche's four-cylinder program, referenced these prototypes in a 2005 Auto Bild article: "In testing, we hid the mechanics of the 944 under the body of the old 924."

#0010 was registered by Porsche on July 7, 1980, with full 120 kW 944 ROW powertrain specs. The Porsche COA confirms it as an "own-use vehicle for Porsche AG," and its VIN sits at the low end of Porsche's reserved block, consistent with an early pre-production test car. It carries its 108th engine (#41C 0108), likely replacing earlier units lost to destructive stress testing.

#0010 spent 22 years with Manfred Freisinger, renowned for preserving numerous Porsche prototypes — including saving the only 901 convertible from the crusher in 1967.

A 30-page Classic Data report commissioned by Porsche Böblingen confirms a solid foundation, though full restoration is needed. #0010 will only grow in value once restored, given its historical significance.

After five years of paying for storage in Germany, where it still resides, other commitments have led to this reluctant sale. My original intention was to have the car restored in Europe and then import it to the US. Ebay does allow me to put Germany as the location.
