Available now from The Group B in Miami, Florida is this 1 of a kind build. From 1987 to 1989 Porsche introduced the 911 Club sport version of the Carrera, 340 units were produced and it was designed to be the "RS" of the era.Inspired by the lightweight 911s of the 1970s, it answered enthusiast demands for a pure, analog, track-ready road car. No rear seats, rear/side wall cladding, No air conditioning, radio, or fog lights, No sunroof, central locking, or power windows, No passenger sun visor or sound deadening insulation.
Before RWB was a global movement, there was Sunburst. Built in Japan to an obsessive standard, Sunburst cars were being created with Pure craftsmanship. No shortcuts. Show, street, and track all living in one machine. This car was widebodied and modified at sunburst in 2015 with the idea in mind to further lighten and widen it for maximum grip.
The Sunburst RSR widebody kit pays homeage to the 70s RSR with the front bumper and rear wing, while the fenders has allowed the car to fit beautiful 3 piece 18 inch work wheels with michelin tires 265/35/18 front 315/30/18 in the rear.
Let’s start with the engine. It has the same 3,164 cc flat six that propelled the regular 3.2 Carrera. Porsche included the addition of lighter, hollow intake valves and 6,840 rpm red line. Forged pistons remained, as did a 10.3:1 compression ratio. Power and torque were completely unchanged on the spec sheet at 231bhp and 209.4 lb/ft. The gearbox itself was the same Getrag G50 unit as the Carrera, driven via a hydraulic clutch but for its new application it featured a shorter shift and revised ratios for the upper gears. A ZF limited— slip differential was standard. Our CS Sunburst was further modified by its last owner with 44 PMO Carburators MSD ignition and MoTEC 84 Management system.
The interior has been modified with lightweight purpose in mind. Carbon style RS door cards, MOMO 3 spoke alcantara steering wheel and is overall extremely tidy. All of the gauges function as they should currently the car has just over 20k verified kilometers which translates to about 12k miles. All the windows are original the rear quarter windows and rear window has been replaced with plexiglass. From factory these cars do not come with a radio or speakers however one has been installed in the glovebox and speakers were installed as well.
Driving experience is amazing. Suspension is dialed in the car has been fully converted to coilovers front and rear with elephant racing camber plates and swift springs. Factory clubsport brake setup has been assisted with braided brake lines and stopping power is adequate. The car comes with a second bolt on exhaust that is a louder version of the current one. The sound of the PMOs on acceleration is fantastic and the car was recently weighed in at 2340 lbs.
