The 1986 Porsche 944 seen here is a three owner example fresh off a restoration and repaint in April of this year. The engine was not rebuilt during the recent restoration, but the seller notes that the head lamps, starter motor and A/C compressor were both replaced with Porsche original parts. The rear-mounted five-speed manual transaxle contributed to outstanding weight distribution, and the seller adds that this one shifts great, with no hitches, clunks, or thumps. This 944 “shines like a new car” after receiving a fresh coat of Guards Red paint just this past April. It appears to be a high-quality job, smooth with no swirls or orange peel visible in the supplied photos. The car should seal up tight, too, as the weather seals were all replaced following the paint job. The glass and exterior lights all appear to be in great shape, including the pop-up headlights.
The black interior of this 944 is in a well preserved condition. The carpet is topped with new-old-stock floor mats, added after the repaint. New speakers are wired to the original radio. The odometer does not work, a common issue with these cars, but claims to have driven fewer than 2,000 miles since the gauge froze.Otherwise, the A/C, heat, power windows, and all lighting are said to be functional.
Underneath, this 944 appears to be very clean. The front struts are said to have been replaced two years ago, while the rear shocks were changed out after the repaint, in May of this year. The steering remains nice and tight and points straight, with no leaks from the power steering pump. Tires were replaced in 2016, and the 15-inch wheels show no scratches or curb rash. The brakes are said to be strong. This vehicle comes with a clean Florida title.
A prime example of the transaxle Porsche years, where the Stuttgart automaker dared think outside the box, this 1986 Porsche 944 is said to have had just three owners over its 37-year lifespan. Receipts for the restoration will be included in the sale if the buyer wants them.
