1987 Porsche 944 5-speed Additional Info:

Ruby was my dream car :)
Purchased (rescued) in 2006 from a "shop" in North Detroit with 85,000 miles. I put another 30,000 since that time. The car has been in the garage since I've owned it. Haven't driven much in the last couple of years. So many other distractions. No mods other than new wheels/tires and a botched fender-roll job by a shop in the Twin Cities that will remain nameless. Car runs strong and is a blast to drive. That said, it has its issues that can be addressed by someone with more time than me. I will grade each area below.

  • Exterior: B
There are scratches and dings. Nothing unusual for a car of this vintage. I suspect there was some body repair at some point but that does not show up in any Carfax. Previous owner denied it, but I think it's obvious that something was repaired. In any case, the work was done well and the exterior is in great shape. No rust.
  • Interior: C
You can see in the picture the typical bolster blight that is common in these cars on the driver's side. New(er) seats are not hard to find. Or just replace with some recaros. There are some cracks in the dash but way less than typical. Stereo has been upgraded to doubl-din size. Doesn't fit perfectly, but works great.
  • Mechanical: C+
Engine starts right up and runs strong. Clutch and shifting are smooth. There are leaks. Possibly small leack at RMS/FMS as well as from the transaxle. Rack and pinion also. That said, I would not have any issues driving cross-country as long as fluids are topped up. Still drives like a bat outta hell.
  • Electrical: B
everything functions as it should except for the sunroof. I have the replacement limit switch needed. Just needs to be installed. Upgraded the gears with brass vs. the plastic ones that always brake.

Upgrades/mods
I have not changed much on the car. Didn't really need more than just new tires. PO assured me he had recently changed the timing belt.
  • Forgestar lightweight custom wheels - these things are awesome
  • Kumho tires with very few miles - probably about 5k
  • Will include Sewer Lid factory wheels with tires that came on the car when purchased
  • Also have 3 wheels/tires that I'll include if interested (long story)
  • Saratoga glass sun roof (OEM sunroof included)
This vehicle would be a terrific candidate for an LS swap. Quotes I've gotten were in the $20k range. Surely a lot cheaper if you are able to do it yourself.
Happy bidding and good luck!
