The original owner, interestingly enough, was a Mr.Daniel Cotter - President/CEO/Chairman of TruServ Corporation (True Value HardwareStores) at the time. Mr. Cotter took delivery of the car on March 15th, 1978, asevidenced by the original Warranty & Maintenance booklet and ownership placard(included in the sale). Mr. Cotter was a huge fan of motor racing; he sponsored thewinning car in the 1983 Indianapolis 500, served on the board of governors of the IndyRacing League, and was a member of the board of the US Automobile CompetitionCommission.Mr. Cotter appears to have sold the car to a Mr. Szcypta of Illinois in the late 1980s;service records indicate an ownership change around that time. We purchased the carfrom the Szcypta family earlier this year. This is, to the very best of our knowledge, atwo-owners-from-new example.Exterior:The car shows exceedingly well, having been cherished and well-cared-for by both firstand second owner. The car was repainted in its correct and original Sienna Metalliconce in 1990 and presents beautifully still to this day. Body Werks of Barrington, Illinoisdid the glass-out, trim-out job. Today, cosmetic blemishes are limited to a handful of very minor chips scattered about the far lower body….nothing more than light road wear. Zero bubblingor blistering anywhere. We’ve put an elcometer on every panel of the car and havefound no evidence of body filler or significant repair. Body panels are nice and straight,with no dings, creases, or scuffs. Polished surfaces show nicely, with no oxidation,fade, or damage to note. Light lenses are in great shape ( Bosch ), not spiderwebbed ordiscolored at all. This car has obviously always been garage-kept and likely covered.Glass appears to be all-original and is clean, clear, and intact throughout. Rubber trimpieces are very presentable, not brittle or worn. Removable targa top is in excellentcondition, having been stored indoors and off of the car. The brushed stainless Targa bar is clean and free of any damage, oxidation, or the like. Fuchs wheels, presumed original to the car, include factory center caps and are in excellent condition. Tires, however, are due forreplacement. They aren’t particularly worn and aren’t flat-spotted at all, but the DOTnumber indicates manufacture in 2009. Please see the video along with the listing, as itprovides a close walk-around look at the car.Interior: Original cork interior survives in very good condition. There is some visible wear on thedriver’s outer bolster and seat-bottom consistent with a car with ~87k miles. No tears,punctures, or deep scuffs, however. Passenger and rears are nice and clean. It doesnot appear as though any interior components have been reupholstered or replaced.Good, honest, nice-driver-level condition. All gauges are extremely clean and clear and are functional and odometer reading of 87,770 is believed accurate, as evidenced by years of service records as well as overall condition of wear items. Even the analog clock is functional. The steering column does have a little bit of up-and-down play; it’s not much, but the plastic steering wheel bushing should eventually be replaced in order to correct that. Power windows operate smoothly and without issue. Heat and fan are functional. Air conditioning is notfunctional; the AC compressor/condenser/lines have been removed but will come withthe car. Carpets are clean and dry, not discolored or too worn, still with OEM floormats.No strange odors or markings throughout the interior. The car has a Nackamichi stereoand Alpine interface in place, but amps and hardware have been removed from theirplace under the hood. All this equipment will come with the car if the next owner wouldlike to reinstall.Underneath:This car is extraordinarily tidy underneath, especially considering it’s been a Midwestcar since new. Clearly a garage-kept summer driver its whole life. Please review thelisting photos and video for a close look. Bushings throughout are fairly fresh, not brittleor well-worn. No concerning leaks: the usual little evidence of oil showing around thejugs, nothing significant enough to actually leak onto the garage floor. No damage fromimproper jacking or road debris. We do note a dent on the front suspension floor pan (nothing that is structural or effects the cars geometry) likely from running over something on the road. Underbody looks great overall.Service History:Major service completed in 1999 (at 86,300 miles) by Porsche Master Technician DanielBurkhardt. Receipts will come with the car. This excellent SC Targa was assembled December 1977 and sold new through Scala &
O’Brien Porsche/Audi of Chicago. The original owner, interestingly enough, was a Mr.
Daniel Cotter - President/CEO/Chairman of TruServ Corporation (True Value Hardware
Stores) at the time. Mr. Cotter took delivery of the car on March 15th, 1978, as

Mr. Cotter appears to have sold the car to a Mr. Szcypta of Illinois in the late 1980s;
service records indicate an ownership change around that time. We purchased the car
from the Szcypta family earlier this year. This is, to the very best of our knowledge, a
two-owners-from-new example.
Exterior:
The car shows exceedingly well, having been cherished and well-cared-for by both first
and second owner. The car was repainted in its correct and original Sienna Metallic
once in 1990 and presents beautifully still to this day. Body Werks of Barrington, Illinois
did the glass-out, trim-out job. Today, cosmetic blemishes are limited to a handful of very minor chips scattered about the far lower body….nothing more than light road wear. Zero bubbling

Glass appears to be all-original and is clean, clear, and intact throughout. Rubber trim

Underneath:
This car is extraordinarily tidy underneath, especially considering it’s been a Midwest
car since new. Clearly a garage-kept summer driver its whole life. Please review the
