1959 Porsche 356 Convertible D
This JPS Motorsports built 1959 Porsche 356 Convertible D is the best 356 replica I have ever driven. The Convertible D styling is rarer than a Speedster. It has modern running gear. It's the perfect color combination (which draws a ton of attention everywhere it goes). It is just an absolute scream to drive. That Subaru 2.5L boxer 4 puts out about 200HP which is about double that of a Porsche or VW 356 engine, so this thing really scoots!
What is a Convertible D you might ask? The D stands for Drauz, the coach builder. This is the last of the A-Series 356's with a production run of just 1331. This was the lowest production number of all 356 models. With Reutter struggling to keep up with other 356 productions, Porsche turned to Drauz for the Speedster replacement design.
The 4-Speed "Competition" transmission is silky & very positive. The exhaust system paired with that flat four Subaru puts out a sound quite reminiscent of a 356 but with a more robust tone.
This is a mirror image of a true Convertible D at a fraction of the cost. A factory original D will run between $250,000-500,000. And Guess What... THIS ONE IS MORE FUN!!!
