1985 Porsche 944 Base 2dr Hatchback Additional Info:
This 1984 Porsche 944 has a lot going for it. Of course, there is the styling that to this day remains captivating with its broad fenders and hips, the iconic Fuchs rims, and aggressive teutonic stance. Then there is the legendary handling thanks to a near perfect balance and finely tuned chassis. Yet with its rear hatch and small back seats, this is also a sensible option for those us who want a classic European performance car that is usable throughout the week or on errands to Costco. It is a well-known fact among Porsche fans that many of the 944's have fallen into disrepair and will cost oodles to put right. This particular car does not fall into that category and comes with reams of paperwork, receipts, and notes. For a 35 year old car that is still largely original, this 944 has strong bones. The car has been repainted once in its original red and it presents well. Of course, there are areas that can be improved upon. Notably the trim around the windshield is showing some overspray and fading. The driver seat needs more padding in the upper portion of the back rest--though the fabric is clean and there are no rips or tears. The front bumper pads need to be reinstalled and some of the door seals could use a refreshening. Tires will need to be replaced. However, mechanically this car has been well-maintained from the records and everything on the car works. The cool flip-up lights work flawlessly. The instruments all function as designed. The engine starts briskly and runs without vibrations. Acceleration is excellent. Shifting is a treat with precise throws and good smooth clutch action. In the documentation I saw a receipt for a short throw kit, so that's already done. Also done fairly recently was a brake system overhaul with new calipers and discs, as well as a new alternator. The headliner, rear seats, dash, and cargo area are excellent. There is an added instrument pod in the dash, where the factory speaker grill sits. This can be reversed as the grill is included with the car. Included as well, are sun visors, a set of brake discs, the original steering wheel, the front bumper pads...all in good shape. As stated, the car presents well and the paint has a nice luster. There are very few blemishes that jump out. I see only one area that may need attention in the future: a beer felt sized area in front of the driver-side rear wheel. This is something that can be addressed when the need comes or if you so desire. This car has the extra large, fabulous lift-out sunroof. The panel, when removed, really opens the cockpit and stores in the cargo area. The car also looks really cool with the roof removed and the air dam up. I mentioned the Fuchs rims earlier. In the optional 944 iteration they come in a staggered 7.5 and 9 inch set-up which really fills out the arches compared with the stock phone dials. A big plus! All in all, this is a mechanically strong, clean 944 that will provide years of fun. Please call or text Mike at 877-795-1747 or email to . Thank you!
