1987 Porsche 944 Additional Info:
Offered in this ad is a Guards Red 1987 944 Turbo with approximately 162,000 miles. I have done some work to make this car enjoyable to drive and the admire visually. It is not restored, and is close to the factory-stock condition. As with many older cars, there are some maintenance issues that should be addressed in order for this car to be concourse level.
It is quite reliable, and moderately quick by vintage standards. The BFG Comp TA tires are less than one year old. The brakes stop smoothly, quietly, and produce minimal dust. The brake lines are braided stainless steel which enhance the feel and stopping effectiveness. The wheels are clean and strait, with no vibrations. The suspension consist of adjustable Koni (yellow) shocks which are also less than a year old. The rear shocks are Bilstein heavy duty (green).
The rear differential oil is new, and the coolant was flushed in early 2019. A lot of the frame rubber has been refreshed as well. The car has the original turbo and waste gate on the engine. The AC does not work because one of the lines needs replacing. The power steering rack needs replacing because of slight play and leaking seals. The manual shifter works well and finds the gears precisely, and the clutch plate has good strong engagement. The engine oil has been change at least yearly using the Porsche recommend viscosity. The oil pressure level gauge is 4+ out of 5 upon start up.
The exhaust still has the cat, resonator and a stock style stainless muffler which has a good tone, in typical Porsche octaves. If desired, this car will accept 17 inch wheels from a Boxster or 964 911. Classic 16 inch Fuchs will not fit 1987 and newer 944s.
In the hands of a capable mechanic or Porschephile this could be an outstanding car. It's a great platform for those wanting value in a reliable Porsche that they don't have to take to a specialist for oil changes, spark plugs, and basic maintenance.
I'm sorry that I don't have a slick, staged dealer add. But my price is fair and my eBay reputation is important to me. I want to sell this car to someone who wants a 944 and who appreciates integrity. Thank you for viewing my add.
