Gulf Livery with Black Interior
This 1963 Porsche 356 B Cabriolet is a fully prepared and developed vintage racecar with period history dating back to 1965 where it competed in the 24th running of the Santa Barbara Road Races, among other events. With the car comes receipts for work done totaling $119,000 USD, and at this time the car is ready for competition with many of the premier road racing sanctioning bodies.
Ownership history is known for this chassis back to 1971 when it was purchased from a widow in Santa Barbra by Joe Boucher. Boucher reports racing the car at Phoenix, Holtville, and Riverside in the early 1970s. Boucher sold the car to Doug March who owned the car until 1989 campaigning the car in SCCA F Production and other Porsche related time trial events. Ed Yates purchased the car in 1990 and was an active participant with HMSA, VARA, and the Porsche Owners Club. Perhaps the most notable of these events are the Monterey Pre-Historic Race weekend at Laguna Seca, and the Wine Country Classic at Sears point (1995). Last owner has exercised this example with VARA and HSR West in 2003, 2004, and 2005.Last Raced at Laguna Seca SCCA in 2011.
Owing to its long race history, this car is very well developed. The roll cage is a beautifully constructed unit by Jerry Woods which enhances the rigidity of chassis. The Dave Koch built and blueprinted engine has less than one hour of time and produces a peak horsepower of 171.2 at 7500rpm with 140 ft/lbs of torque at 5200rpm. Solex PII 42mm carburetors and JE 86mm pistons are fitted, along with a Burch racing exhaust. Full flow oil coolers have been installed with braided lines. The transmission is a short course ratio unit, no. 714/2. Period correct disc brakes are fitted. The floors and longitudinals have been replaced with reinforced OEM material. The king and link pins have been amply reinforced. A Fuel Safe cell and full fire system have fitted. The gauges have been rebuilt to ensure reliability and accuracy.
Today the car remains in excellent condition and is ready to go vintage racing, with some refreshing.
With this car comes a three ring binder with a summary of the cars history detailing what events it has participated, ownership history back to 1971, several photos of the car vintage racing, and a photo documentation of the restoration. Log Books Included.
