1986 Porsche 928 S automatic transmission; exceptionally rare, low mileage – 47,000, high option original car in near perfect condition and impeccably maintained.
This Porsche 928 S looks like it could be a new car sitting on the showroom floor of a Porsche dealership. It looks and drives like a new car.
The car has led a pampered life with no expense spared in maintaining the car in excellent original condition. All significant maintenance records from new are included, along with the window sticker and original owners manuals and extra keys. $4k was just spent installing new performance tires, timing belt, water pump, oxygen sensor, and AC service (R134a that blows under 35 degrees). The car could be a luxurious performance daily driver or stored to appreciate in value.
Nearly every available option is included, including the rare limited slip differential, full leather interior with 8-way power adjustable heated seats for driver and passenger, and anti-lock braking system (among the very first production cars with ABS braking). Also included are the typical standard and fully functional features: air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, locks, sunroof, wipers, rear hatch release, etc. The original Blaupunkt stereo remains intact and functional except the amplifier (also uncommon among used 928s).
The car wears a beautiful Garnet Red metallic paint and an exceedingly rich cordovan brown interior with perfect supple, original leather seats and wool carpet. It has never been in an accident, but there was a small repair to the paint on the right rear quarter panel, otherwise the car wears its original paint in beautiful condition except for a few stone chips. The car has no dings or dents.
This car comes equipped with a luxurious full leather interior covering the dash, door panels, arm rests and other interior trim in addition to the seats. The leather is perfect and remains soft and supple, with no signs of sun damage.
The 1986 cars have the 32v, four cam, 5.0L 288 horsepower motor, one of the most advanced engines of its time. The engine produces 300 ft. lbs. of torque from 2700 rpms, offering effortless power at any speed. The engine sounds like a mechanical symphony, producing wonderfully smooth and powerful induction and exhaust notes all the way to its 6000 rpm limit. It is truly a masterpiece of German precision engineering, in 1986 and now.
Unlike the later S4 cars, the 1985-86 928 S models have more aggressive shifting and are lighter, making them much more sporting to drive and more nimble than the 87 and newer S4 cars. Not until the GT and GTS arrived with more horsepower did the 928 recover its sporty feel, in my humble opinion. The 85 and 86 cars are my personal favorite of the Porsche 928 line. If you do wish to improve upon German precision engineering, chips are available for the 85-86 cars that allow these engines to produce over 300 horsepower.
Very few original, low mileage Porsche 928 vehicles remain and they seldom come up for sale. I spent a very long time looking for a nice low mileage car. This is a wonderful vehicle that will reward you with many years of enjoyment, while appreciating in value along with other classic Porsches.
